This week, Errol & Tonya Victor's second-degree murder trial begins. The pair is accused of killing their 7-year-old child by beating him. The pair, who are representing themselves, claimed he died by asphyxiation. www.theneworleansadvocate.com/news/9801239-171/jury-nearly-seated-in-2008Jury selection will continue tomorrow with two alternates being determined, then the actual trial will begin. AMW aired the Victors in 2012 and they became Captures #1,180 and $1,181 within 24 hours of their profile. The pair are apparently representing themselves. In my experience covering courts, I can tell you that's a very bad sign for the defendants. They have no legal experience, so they won't know what to argue and what not to argue.

Well, the Victors do seem cunning and it does concern me it is said many people knew relatives of them but I agree it usually is a bad sign and when I see these cases in the news where the defendant acts as his own attorney it often becomes a sideshow.
The best example I remember was Colin Ferguson in the 1990's. He shot and killed multiple people on the Long Island Rail Road and acted as his own attorney. He actually had the balls to ask surviving victims if it was him who shot them. Obviously they had no trouble remembering a man who looked at them and shot him and he was convicted. I recall on the news the courtroom erupted in applause when he was found guilty.

It's about time! I was afraid the St John The Baptist's Parrish courts weren't even going to get that far! I was afraid they'd drop the charges. If the doctors and nurses in that hospital saw ML's belt wounds, who else could've murdered him? The detectives had to have seen the myriad ways that pain was inflicted on the 11 victims!

I hoped the judge give them a death pentaly and life in prison when they found gulity, to me they guilty

From what I understand the Victors are charged with second-degree murder. From what I looked up really the only difference between first and second degree murder is first degree carries the death penalty while second degree does not and has a life in prison maximum penalty. So the Victors can potentially be sentenced to life in prison but they are NOT eligible for the death penalty. Also, it sounds weird coming from the guy who created this site, but in the eyes of the law all fugitives are innocent until proven guilty and the Victors are entitled to a trial before punishment is decided if the jury finds them responsible for the death of M.L. . Some fugitives such as Yaser Said where it's rather obvious they did it I'm a little more vocal about but we need to remember when discussing fugitives here that these crimes are what they allegedly did. Being on the run doesn't make those accused of a crime who go on the run look good, but legally speaking a jury needs to find them guilty. I agree with you though that if a jury finds them guilty, they should be in jail for the rest of their life, which is the maximum penalty that would legally be allowed to be given out. But let's wait for the outcome of the trial. wiki.answers.com/Q/What_in_the_maximum_sentence_of_second_degree_murder_in_Louisiana

Justice served! Errol Victor convicted of second-degree murder. Tonya Victor convicted of manslaughter. In my opinion this was the correct call. Errol was the one who beat M.L. to death. Tonya deserved slightly less since she wasn't doing the beating but she still stood around and did nothing to stop it. M.L.'s brothers showed how brave they were. Their parents acting as their own attorneys was in my opinion partly an attempt to intimidate when they questioned them. It didn't work. The best capture(s) from the Lifetime season are convicted. Hopefully they receive the harshest sentence possible from the Judge! www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/2014/08/jury_delivers_verdict_in_errol.html

Excellent conviction news on this really horrible case! Thankfully Final Justice managed to be served!

Very appropriate convictions, if I say so myself. I agree that Errol deserved the 2nd degree murder conviction (it clearly wasn't premeditated, so they would never have gotten a 1st degree murder conviction) and Tonya getting manslaughter is appropriate as well.
