The case of the unknown killer of brothers Sean and Donny Goecheus was aired way back on AMW on November 13th, 1999.
Sean, 25, and Donnie, 19, were living in a house Sean had rented.
Detectives say on January 9th and 10th, 1997, between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., the brothers were shot and killed execution style in that home.
Although going way back, according to the old AMW website archive, Detectives say that the killer was let in by one of the brothers who knew the suspect. Detectives say Sean and his killer were upstairs having a drink together while Donnie was downstairs using the bathroom. Sean, at some point, walked downstairs to the kitchen to make another drink. Detectives believe that the killer picked up Sean's gun, a 9mm stainless steel Ruger, which was laying on the coffee table and followed him downstairs. The killer shot Sean in the upper chest in the kitchen and then walked over to the bathroom and shot Donnie two times in the head.
Detectives say the suspect then fled the house, taking the gun and a Motorola Star-Tac cell phone with him. Detectives believe he broke the window in the front door to make it look like there was a robbery. Detectives believe that the killer was no novice to this type of crime because he fired five times, hitting his target every time.
The reason I am posting the case tonight is there have been some updates in the past few months.
According to Chattabooga District Attorney General Neal Pinkston, investigators have unearthed new leads and significant progress has been achieved toward identifying the person and or persons responsible for these murders. Exactly what the new leads are have not been mentioned in any newspaper articles.
Because of the new hope in solving the case, Pinkston has asked the Governor of Tennessee to offer a reward leading to an arrest.
Thoughts? A few minor notes, the AMW archive has a few inaccuracies. Their last name is Goetcheus and not Goecheus. The murder was 1997 and not 1999. Also, according to the new 2014 articles, it's Donny and Donnie. Not extremely important in the grand scheme of things, but wanted to clarify if anyone clicked on the link.
Anyway, I am curious what those leads are, although of course I understand the vagueness of details are anything further could jeopardize the case.
Hopefully Pinkston gets the Governor to offer reward money, but me personally would have no problem doing the right thing if I knew and would make that call anyway.
Sean and Donny had parents and family that loved them and need justice, and anyone with any information should come forward because it's the right thing to do.
