Anyone with information about the case may contact Maine State Police at 800-432-7381.
On Aug 8, 1980, 16-year old student Joyce McLain went out jogging behind her high school in East Millinocket, Maine. Never seen alive again, two days later, her partially clad body was found in the woods behind her school. Although no sign of sexual assault was detected, she had been beaten on her head and neck by a blunt object, causing her death. The night Joyce went missing, a torrential downpour hit the area, washing away any possible evidence that could have identified the person(s) responsible for her murder. An investigator involved in the case said that Joyce was murdered by a sociopath who is "no longer a threat to society", but didn't give a name. Joyce's mother also said that she thinks she knows who murdered her daughter, while also not giving a name.

Thoughts? This case was aired on Unsolved Mysteries in 1989, however I'm pretty sure it never was aired on AMW. A few new updates have happened recently. The TNT series Cold Justice tried to do an episode on this case but Maine officials denied the request, saying they didn't want a TV show to interfere with the investigation. According to the Unsolved Mysteries Wikia Page, in 2009, Joyce's grave site was repeatedly vandalized. Not sure how credible that is (although the UM Wikia is very well done) however that could just be the work of some local punks. Also why is there so much reluctance to not name who you think is responsible for this murder when you're so sure that this person is responsible? Sadly it seems the likelihood of charging someone in this 35-year old murder is going to be very low with the lack of physical evidence to work with.
