Adrian Cruz is wanted on escape charges out of Phoenix since 2009. He was aired four times on AMW from 2009 to 2011, however his first profile was a commercial break case, two of the 2011 profiles were brief mentions during the 50/50 Fugitive shows and only one was a full profile.
In 2003, Adrian Cruz would rape two females. In the first incident, he offered a 34-year old woman a ride home late at night, he then proceeded to viciously rape her. Also in that year, he offered a ride for a 13-year old runaway girl and proceeded to rape her and threaten to kill her. The two crimes went unsolved for a couple of years. In 2004, Cruz was driving his ice-cream truck when he offered his girlfriend's nine-year old daughter a ride. She accepted and Cruz proceeded to rape her as well. She told her mother and it was discovered that Cruz impregnated her and the pregnancy was terminated due to the girl's young age. The girl as a result of the ordeal, has been in and out of mental institutions and even attempted suicide.
Cruz was sentenced to life imprisonment without the chance of parole for 35 years for the 2004 rape. In 2008, DNA matching linked Cruz to the two 2003 rapes. Cruz was brought to trial for those crimes. On Feb 19, 2009, Cruz was alone in an interview room when he somehow got out of his shackles, possibly by using lotion, got a leather coat that was owned by a judge and walked out of the Maricopa County Superior Courthouse undetected because he was wearing civilian clothing.
Eight months after his escape, US Marshals tracked Cruz to Mexico City, where he had relatives. Authorities requested an arrest warrant but Mexico had issues with the wording on the arrest warrant. Cruz was identified as an escapee, a charge that the Mexican government doesn't recongize. As authorities had to come up with a new arrest warrant, the leads went cold. A few days later, informants said Cruz was selling DVDs at a Mexico City plaza, but the lead didn't go anywhere. Another problem may be that if Cruz is captured in Mexico, he may claim he is not the fugitive they are looking for because his Mexican birth certificate identifies him as "Eleazar Cruz Colin". Authorities would pretty much have to build a new case to get him extraditied. In 2011, detectives said that Cruz who was an illegal immigrant, would likely not return to Arizona.
Thoughts? Sadly it appears that Cruz is staying in Mexico and that he isn't getting captured anytime soon.
