I wonder myself.
I don't want to sound like I'd be giving up but I approved Jean as PE #1 since the forum members voted for him, but due to one questions and his cold case status I do feel we should revisit this case and possibly choose a new PE #1 if he still isn't caught in a few years (I'd still keep him on the site dirty dozen, and would only be "giving up" on the PE #1 part).
But yeah the Earthquake makes me wonder. Heck he could died from Covid in Florida for all we know.

Have there been any confirmed sightings since 1996? I know that someone posted he has been in Haiti since 1997, but it’s worth asking.

I still feel a slight chance Esnel Jean could be in a Haitian community in Florida or there are many communities with a decent sized amount of Haitians in NYC (specifically could be in Brooklyn in near Flatbush area). But Haiti obviously most likely at this point.

Honestly in retrospect he should have been added to the top ten list the late 90s or early aughts. He could fill one of the two open slots since there's room for a cold case as both Yaser Said and Santiago Mederos were on the run for a decade, I'd be on board with that, but the prime opportunity to add him has now passed by.

Adding him now would really kick up some new leads.

I don't think I'm revealing anything I shouldn't since I passed along the tip like several years ago but I once got an anonymous e-mail (one of my few regrets that our contact form is no longer anonymous) that I passed along that said he was working as a bus driver in Haiti. I mean that's not really specific enough to be that great a tip hence why I feel ok to reveal it publicly but I passed it along anyway. Just it does show that people may send in leads should In Pursuit want to air him in Season 3, I know from my conacts there they prefer to profile more recent cases, but he can fit into that one or two exceptions category (they did air Lester Eubanks for example).

Thing is, tips from the public can help. Many, many Americans visit Haiti each year as part of mission work. Someone may recognize him.

I realistically see him in Haiti or the Dominican Republic, more in the Dominican Republic since the assassination of former Haitian President Jovenel Moïse in 2021 really sent Haiti spiraling even more into chaos ever since, and if Esnel Jean were in Haitian communities in the United States, I reckon he would’ve been caught already by now.

It's fascinating to me to see how much Esnel Jean has in common with Jean-Marie Jean-Francois. In fact, AMW actually recycled the footage of the voodoo ceremony they shot for Esnel Jean's story for Jean-Francois' story. I know it's extremely unlikely, but how weird would it be if both of them were in Haiti and somehow knew each other?

I know it's extremely unlikely, but how weird would it be if both of them were in Haiti and somehow knew each other? AMW has often recycled some of their reenactments in different segments. They used it a lot in their 15 Seconds of Shame segments. I recall watching an segment All Points Bulletin from 2006 in which they used a visual from a reenactment of a case they aired back in 1993. As with Esnel Jean, I vaguely remember him. If that's the case where the AMW reenactment included a guy eating something followed by an x-ray shot of what he ate going down his body. That may be him. But a lot of notable AMW cases still unsolved lacks available info online these days and I don't know why.
