(Above photo credit: Wikipedia) Maura Murray went missing in New Hampshire 10 years ago. Her case was aired on the Investigation Discovery show Disappeared. In February 2004, Maura was a student who was set to have a credit card fraud charge dismissed due to good behaviour. While working on Feb 5, she broke down in tears but didn't reveal to reason to anyone. On Feb 7, she was driving back to her father's motel when she crashed his car, her father determined the damage was covered by his insurance. On Feb 9, she told her work supervisor and school facility that there was a death in her family and she would be off for a week, there was no death in her family at the time. She then withdrew $280 from an ATM and bought $40 worth of alcohol, footage showed that she was alone at the time. Later that evening, a woman heard a noise outside her home and found Maura's car up against a snowbank. Most of Maura's possessions were found inside the car, except her debit cards, credit cards and cell phone, none of which were ever used again. A school bus driver noticed a woman who was cold and shivered but told him not to call the police. A massive search was then launched in the area and investigators at the time thought she was upset or suicidal. At the end of 2004, a man gave Maura's father a knife and claimed that his brother and his brother's girlfriend acted suspiciously after Maura disappeared. Police never did a through investigation into the knife as they couldn't determine if it was involved in a crime. In Oct 2006, cadaver dogs went "bonkers" when they searched a home to the possible presence of human remains a few miles from where Maura's car was found, however no remains were located. ---- Thoughts? This is a very weird case. Judging by her actions before she disappeared, I have to suspect that she was going through some type of emotional distress or something was really bothering her. The question is, whatever became of Maura after her car was found. Did she die from exposure to the elements and searchers missed her body? I don't know what to make about the man who gave Maura's father the knife and his claims. I should also mention that an AMW producer said that the show declined to air Maura's case because "they only air missing adults if there's clear evidence of a crime." If you count commercial break airings, that is rather debatable, but I feel that AMW at time felt that she had left of her own accord and it wasn't likely that a crime had been committed. According to the New Hampshire Department of Public Safety website, if you have seen Maura or if you have any information regarding her whereabouts, please contact the New Hampshire Division of State Police at (800) 852-3411 or (603) 846-3333 or e-mail missingpersons@safety.state.nh.us.

They only air missing adults if there's clear evidence of a crime? What about the time they went all the way to Japan to investigate a student who was only *possibly* murdered. (Sorry not saying his disappearance is not tragic, but I'm still pissed about the fact that if case was ever going to get solved, it wasn't going to be as a result of AMW and that reckless spending is part of what led the show to get cancelled by Fox).
Anyway, I was convinced this was a possible suicide while reading your summary right up until I saw the knife comment. It could have been just someone with mental issues that gave that knife to Maura's father. Sadly whether she died by her own doing or someone else's, I don't think she survived much longer after she disappeared. But once again like all missing cases where I suspect that, I always hold out the hope that I'll be wrong.

P.S. I also remember- thankfully there was a recovery- I think AMW did once recover a missing adult who might not have necessarily had anything bad happen to him but suffered from dementia or one of those conditions.
Also, great job getting a Disappeared case on our website!

Yeah normally I'd write this off as some random nutcase- but the problem here is this guy apparently knows details of the case. Article doesn't specify if these details were made public, if they weren't, it's a huge red flag.
The guy is at the very least a nutjob, and at the very worst Maura's possible killer.

Agreed and even this guy was said to resemble fugitive John William McGrath, which was said I believe on another forum I lurked on in 2014.

So, there's a new Oxygen series on this case entitled "The Disappearance Of Maura Murray". The case has already been profiled on Disappeared, 20/20 and had an entire book written about it, not to mention the various podcasts (at least one devoted a minimum of 40 episodes to it), endless internet speculation and so on and so forth.
Apparently, this wasn't quite enough for a woman by the name of Maggie Freleng (who this woman is, I have no idea), but she bills herself as an "investigative journalist" and decided that the case needed her input (it really doesn't). It's difficult to take Maggie seriously considering her body is riddled with hideous tattoos, not a very professional look at all.
The debut episode of this 6-part miniseries has Maggie frequently putting internet commenters on BLAST for their audacity to...you know....exercise the First Amendment, while at the same time, not being able to disprove a single one of those comments. Maggie herself is nothing more than a glorified internet sleuth considering she does not work for law enforcement or anything related to that.
More things from Maggie made me just want to throw things at the television. She claims a personal connection to this case because she went to the same college as Maura (UMASS, which Maggie wrongfully claims Maura transferred to. She didn't transfer, she was expelled from West Point for stealing). She didn't know Maura personally mind you, but because, uh, they went to the same college, she feels a "personal connection." Maggie also claims this miniseries is about all the missing women out there (I guess she doesn't care about missing men? missing boys? Nope, no mention of any of those people at all.)
Now, articles are popping up that Maggie "revealed" that Maura disappeared the same week Facebook launched. First of all, this is not true. James Renner made that revelation some time ago on his blog. It was not "discovered" by Maggie. Secondly, who cares? It's a trivial at best aspect of this case that means nothing in the grand scheme of things.
Maggie sat down for an interview with the controversial Fred Murray. Fred can best be described as an ass, a liar, a pervert and a man who constantly puts up smokescreens to keep people from the truth. Virtually everyone warns Maggie about what a jerk he is, but she comes away with the impression that he's neat. As for the interview, Fred did his usual of misleading people about what a great person Maura is (Maura is/was a pathological liar and thief who was kicked out of a college for stealing and committed identity theft after that, a drunk, a person who crashed and totaled 2 cars in 3 days (including her father's brand new car), and other things I won't get into), before cutting the interview short and stating that he "Can't talk about Maura". Keep in mind this man did not give a formal interview for the first 5 and a half years after Maura went missing and when he finally did, he brought his attorney.
Anyways, there are a lot more aspects to this case that I won't get into because it could take forever, but to me it's apparent Maura voluntarily disappeared to escape all of the problems she created (she had a history of running away) and law enforcement believes she voluntarily disappeared as well.
As for this miniseries, it's just some nobody's attempt to cash in on a subject that's been done to death. There's no point in tuning in when the case has been thoroughly covered elsewhere and better.
Recommendation to avoid.

Hate to sound lazy but I was already planning on not watching it because 6 episodes on one case is too much for me lol. Thanks for the warning though. Doesn't excuse it if there was foul play but Maura obviously wasn't a saint which complicates the case.
