Ignacio Bahena has been wanted by Indiana's Elkhart County Prosecutors since 2003. He was aired on the February 26th, 2005 episode of AMW. Below is the archived description of his case:
Man Suspected of Shooting Down 20-year-old
Police say Karla Castro and her boyfriend Jesus Gonzalez were cruising along an Indiana road, when two vehicles boxed in their car and opened fire. Though Gonzalez was shot five times, he survived. But Karla, only 20 years old, was dead--and cops say she probably wasn't the person the bullet was intended for.
Instead, cops say Karla was the innocent victim of a long-standing feud between Gonzalez and his fellow gang member, Ignacio Bahena. The two were members of the Sur13 gang--and cops say they had a history of violence. Reportedly, Gonzalez had previously burned down Bahena's parents' trailer. They have also participated in gun fights, firing shots at one another.
A Life Ends, A Search Begins
The feud came to a head on August 13, 2003, with the violent shooting that injured Gonzalez and killed Karla.
Authorities are charging Bahena with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder. Police have interviewed several witnesses, but leads have come up cold. Investigators are not going to stop searching until they find him.
Thoughts? All I can say is Karla Castro did not deserve to die, regardless of the beef between Gonzalez and Bahena. Sure, she might have been hanging out with a guy she probably shouldn't have been hanging out with, but lots of girls around her age have made similar mistakes. Now a 20-year old life is taken because of two guys who couldn't settle a score without putting the public at risk. It will be twelve years this August, so Bahena likely looks different today, but hopefully someone still recognizes him.
