Igor Koumlikov has been wanted by Detroit police since 2000. He was aired at least three times on AMW. Below is the archive description of his case:
A Body In The Backyard
Detroit cops say rumors were swirling. People were saying that someone killed Jan Jasinski and buried him in his own back yard. The rumors got so loud that the police department started investigating, despite the fact that no one had ever reported Jan missing, nor was there a murder scene.
Ultimately, the investigation led to the excavation of Jan's backyard. That's when cops found the year-old buried corpse of Jan Jasinski.
It Seems Like A Slam-Dunk, But Is It?
More than one man was going around Detroit, spreading rumors that they had killed Jan Jasinski. Cops investigated, and realized that at least one of the suspects was all talk. Police narrowed it down to a Russian immigrant named Igor Koumlikov.
According to police Jan and Koumlikov got into a fight on a Thursday or Friday in June or July of 2000. It was so bad that Koumlikov ended up in the hospital with an eye injury. For several days, Koumlikov laid low and purposefully avoided Jan Jasinski. Finally on the following Monday night, cops say that Koumlikov's rage got the best of him. In the wee hours of the morning investigators say Koumlikov cut through a back door screen in Jan's house and as Jan lay asleep on his couch pummeled him into unconsciousness. Finally, cops say Koumlikov tried to wake Jan up, but it was too late. Jan was dead.
Cops: Koumlikov Hatches A Plan
The next night, investigators say Koumlikov came back to Jan's house with Andrey Palatkin and another unknown accomplice. They say that together the three men took Jan's body off the couch, wrapped it in a tarp and all three took turns digging a grave in Jan's back yard. When they were done, investigators saym Jan was buried six feet under where he would remain untouched for a year.
Police say that Koumlikov told Andrey if he ever told anyone about Jan's murder, he would kill him and his girlfriend and bury them in the backyard next to Jan. But, they say that didn't stop Koumlikov from boasting of his crime when other people asked where Jan was. Once he shared his grisly tale, police say Koumlikov would repeat the threats he had made to Andrey.
Cops think Koumlikov has ties to organized crime. They say he controlled people with fear. They think he may be on the run with the help of the Russian Mob and he may have returned to the Ukraine or Moscow.
Thoughts? Considering Koumlikov's possible ties to the Russian mob it is possible or even probable he fled to the Ukraine or Moscow at one point. However, considering he was brazen enough to allegedly brag about his crime, he could be brazen enough to come back to the U.S. and hide in plain sight.
