Tomas Magallon Gonzalez was aired as a commercial break case on the September 26th, 2009 episode of America's Most Wanted. Below is the archived description of his case:
Cops: Indecent Affair Ends With Victim's Murder
Tomas Magallon Gonzalez is wanted for the murder of the mother of his children.
Cops say roofer Tomas Magallon Gonzalez was living in Los Angeles in 1987 when he was trusted to take care of a young girl.
The girl was only 8, and Gonzalez was 25, when he began to molest her, cops have said.
The victim’s brother told cops that the abuse would take place while their mother was away, citing one time he peeked into their living room and actually saw his young sister with Gonzalez.
The next morning, he had asked his sister what was going on. She said Gonzalez threatened to harm the family if she told anyone about what had happened.
Police say Gonzalez continued to sexually assault the young victim for years, going so far as to keep her home from school if possible.
One day in 1995, authorities say the victim’s mother came home unannounced and she caught Gonzalez having sex with her daughter, who was then 16.
Detectives say Gonzalez manipulated the victim’s mom into not pressing charges, and in return, agreed to never come into contact with her daughter again.
But cops say Gonzalez had set a trap in order to keep her in his clutches, and she fell into it head first.
Stress at home and the ordeal of being found with an older man caused the victim to run away just a few months later. From there, she fell back into the arms of Gonzalez, who had rented an apartment where they would live together.
From there, the story took an even more twisted turn.
Trapped By Deception
Detectives with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department say in 1997, the victim showed up on her mother’s doorstep with a newborn baby.
The victim told her mom she had gotten pregnant at a party. However, cops confirmed that nobody in the family ever really believed that story.
As it turns out, the child actually belonged to Gonzalez. Regardless, the victim’s mother agreed to let her move back in and to help raise the baby.
When Gonzalez’ wife was diagnosed with cancer in 1998, cops say his relationship with the victim continued.
After his wife died in 2001, authorities say Gonzalez changed for the worse, and he became even more controlling.
He refused to let her date anyone else, even though she was still just a young woman and he was then 39.
Police say the forced relationship continued in the following years. Although the victim had a second child with Gonzalez, she began dating other men without his knowledge.
According to detectives, Gonzalez would threaten the victim with escalating intensity, even describing various ways he would kill her if she ever left him.
The victim’s brother told police his sister was trapped by her situation.
A coworker reported to authorities that in the final weeks of August 2008, the victim had planned on taking a leave of absence to relocate her family away from Gonzalez. Cops say she never got that chance.
Cowardly, Premeditated, Bare-Handed Murder
The victim was found strangled to death in Gonzalez's California apartment on Sept. 12, 2008.
On Sept. 12, 2008, cops say the victim’s children found themselves locked out of their Lakewood, Calif. apartment.
They called an uncle -- Gonzalez’s brother -- to see if he knew where Gonzalez or their mother was.
According to investigators, the brother said Gonzalez warned him over the phone to keep the kids away from the apartment because he had just done something stupid.
Sheriff’s Deputies found the victim’s body hidden under a pile of blankets behind the couch. She had died of suffocation.
Cops say Gonzalez fled to Mexico and may still be there.
Thoughts? As we've discussed before, this is an underrated, sick, and disturbing case, and it is surprising it only got an 8-second commercial break case on AMW. (Come on, they couldn't have aired him as a full-profile instead of the probably impossible to solve Woodlawn Jane Doe?).
