Say, I noticed something in the UM segment that I wanted to get others’ take on. Detective Warren Miller, the KCPD Detective assigned to the case, seemed like a pretty bright guy. I noticed him say, “I personally think he’s back in the United States. I think he would’ve gotten tired of being that far north with no FAMILY (emphasis added), and that’s not his style. His style was was a little bit faster, a little bit flashier, a little looser, and that might have been okay for a year or two, but I think he’s back. I think he’s back here somewhere.”
Does anyone else take that to mean that Detective Miller had evidence that family members were in contact with Richard? Sure, you could argue that it meant he relied a lot on family and friends, but that struck me as significant.

I never even noticed that before but that definitely does sound like passive aggressive hinting to me.

I never even noticed that before but that definitely does sound like passive aggressive hinting to me. Like I mentioned, this detective seemed pretty sharp. He really made sure all the bases had been covered (for instance, they could have probably arrested Bocklage right away based on the eyewitness’ report, but he wanted to find the .45 pistol, first). We do know that Richard did have some help from at least one friend after the killing. One of them dumped his pet python snake into the reptile exhibit at the Kansas City Zoo. While we know Richard had some outdoor skills, I do not believe he could have survived that far north without some help. He wasn’t the loner-type like Robert Fisher - he really depended on others. Another example: Eric Robert Rudolph. We now know there was strong circumstantial evidence that he was getting some assistance while living primarily in the woods (one tip to AMW shortly before his arrest indicated that a family member of the tipster had been helping Rudolph while on the run).

Interesting stuff, guys. I'm not sure what to say about this one. Bocklage would be in his early to mid 60s right? He easily could be out there. However, if he was really experiencing psychosis like you speculated, then it would seem unlikely he survived all these years. This case hasn't gotten enough exposure, that's for sure. I know exactly what you mean, spiraleyes. I would really like to see the AMW segment on this case. It's a damn shame FOX just sits on all of that footage and doesn't let anyone upload cases to YouTube. So selfish.

I became a devoted AMW viewer back in 1996 so unfortunately before my time- all I know is the UM segment since that has been played in the Amazon Prime reruns unfortunately.

I do remember that on the website from the 2001 airing, it just had his 1979-80 photo and that was it. The problem with that photo is that it’s not in the best quality. You really cannot see Richard’s eyes very well.

Oh I forgot he was aired in 2001, I guess I don't really remember it then.

I guess because they only aired him once during my prime viewing days is the reason I don't really remember.

Richard Bocklage isn’t that old coming in at 63 (same age as Yaser Said), I feel Bocklage is hiding in Canada, specifically Saskatchewan as it’s the prairies and he could live a quiet life under the radar there. He ditched his vehicle in Thompson, Manitoba, Canada and Manitoba is very remote once you run up north, Thompson is basically Northern Manitoba only large town, so I think Bocklage has been able to hide for as long as he has because of how remote it is up there. There have been previous captures of FBI Top Ten fugitives, in Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta, City of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Ontario, although not a top ten fugitive, Florida child molestor Denise Harvey, who had a relationship with a 16 year boy in 2008, was granted asylum in Canada in 2014, and was living in Saskatchewan Back on topic, I think if this case gets added exposure, they could get Richard Bocklage and he’s not that old either. unsolvedmysteries.fandom.com/wiki/Richard_Bocklage

I do not believe the first cousin they interviewed was helping him on the run, but that article sure seemed to indicate that the investigators had good reason to suspect other family members were.
What fascinates me is they did get some tips from his 2001 broadcast which, although they constituted 2% of the leads, seemed credible, and the FBI sure seemed adamant that he was suspected of committing robberies in the U.S. as of 2001. I think it’s very possible he is back here and alive.
I also very much agree that Richard was likely using speed at the time of the murder because of the distance he traveled after the murders on what was likely very little rest.

Question: I would not put Richard on my list of Ten Most Wanted candidates right now, but does anyone else think the FBI gave it some thought back when they had info that he was committing robberies? Keep in mind, his .45 automatic is still missing.

Honestly I have no clue. We saw what I thought was a mistake waiting so long to put Brad Bishop on the list so guys who may seem like obvious candidates to us might unfortunately not been so obvious to the FBI- plus they seemed to go by themes on the list- in the 70s it was domestic terrorists then later on it became drug cartel fugitives etc... I don't think Bocklage fit any particular theme back in 1980.

I agree: I am just saying with the info regarding the robberies in 2001-2002 if they gave it thought then? My guess from the info in that article was that the AMW show received tips that caused someone to recognize him from a robbery. I doubt that there is any forensic evidence linking Bocklage to the robberies, because if there was, we would have seen additional charges.

I honestly would lean towards them not considering him since we never heard about it- although to be honest considering Yaser Said was a cold case I'd be all for them putting him on the list this year (I only dislike cold cases if it sacrifices a recent slot).

Keep in mind that Yaser Said was only on the run for nearly seven years before he was added to the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list. Richard Bocklage by comparison has been on the run for over 40 years.
