On August 25, 1994, off-duty Ocean County, New Jersey sheriff's officer Felix Velez was the victim of an armed robbery and assault. Felix was at an ATM when Eyal Benyosef and an accomplice robbed him at gunpoint and tried to restrain Felix. Felix then identified himself as a law enforcement officer and shot and wounded one of his attackers during a struggle. The attackers got Felix's gun, causing the officer to flee for his life.
Thanks to persistent detective work, Eyal Benyosef was arrested in 2001 in New York for the crimes committed. He however posted bond and is believed to have seeked asylum in Israel. The accomplice, Ronen Shimoni was arrested in Canada in 2003 and has since been convicted in this case.

Thoughts? Thanks to NewsLibrary for providing an archived newspaper text link from 2001 on this case. Additionally, Ronen Shimoni also fled to Israel as well before fleeing to Canada where he got arrested. We can only hope that Eyal travels from Israel to another nation where extradition would be easier.
