Brenda Cisneros (pictured top left) and Yvette Martinez (pictured top right) have been missing in Mexico since 2004. AMW aired the case once in 2005.
On September 17, 2004, Laredo, Texas friends Brenda and Yvette crossed the border into Nuevo Laredo, Mexico to attend a concert in celebration of Brenda's birthday. They were seen by another friend at the concert. The last known contact with them was at 4AM the following day, when a friend contacted them on their cellphone about getting breakfast once the two crossed back into Texas. Neither have been seen since. On October 8, 2004, Yvette's stepfather, William Slemaker found the women's car in a local Nuevo Laredo police tow-yard. The car's stereo and battery were missing.
There are many theories regarding this case. Over a dozen Americans were reported as missing in the Nuevo Laredo area around the time that Brenda and Yvette went missing. William who founded Laredo's Missing, a group dedicated to locating missing Americans in Nuevo Laredo, believes that the former leader of Los Zetas, Miguel "Z-40" Trevino-Morales knows what happened to the two women.
- Brenda Cisneros was also a wanted fugitive at the time of her disappearance, she had warrants for drug possession. In 2003, she, her boyfriend and several other people were kidnapped in Nuevo Leon state. She escaped but never saw her boyfriend again.
- The FBI later confirmed a tip that William received that Nuevo Laredo police officers likely kidnapped Brenda and Yvette and offered them as "gifts" to Los Zetas cartel bosses. The likely meaning of "gifts" in this case would be women who were raped and murdered by Los Zetas. As a result of William's investigation, 15 cartel members crossed into Laredo to kill William and his family, the FBI caught them before they could kill them.
Thoughts? I personally doubt the disappearances were directly related to Brenda's drug possession, I also feel that the 2003 kidnapping was a result of them travelling in a such a dangerous region of Mexico. I personally believe they were kidnapped to be offered to Los Zetas. What fascinates me about this is that an unusual number of women were raped and murdered in the Nuevo Laredo/Matamoros area (Matamoros is somewhat near Nuevo Laredo) in the years before the disappearances of Brenda and Yvette. That doesn't mean the killings stopped, but articles about these murders came out in 2003. These killings may have even been related to the serial killings of women and girls in Ciudad Juarez!
