Hi, Intro: I'm a professor writing a book on the late 1980s/early 1990s reality tv era. Specifically, I'm wondering if anyone here can help me determine which specific episode of AMW was **directed** by the Hughes Brothers? They later directed Menace II Society (1993); and they found their star, Tyrin Turner, through his AMW appearance as a gang member Here's a mention of AMW www.nytimes.com/1993/06/10/movies/twins-movie-making-vision-fighting-violence-with-violence.html) and here's a really rough version of Turner's 1990 appearance: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSAUChy8mt4Any assistance with the Hughes clip (even a digitized version) would be great! I'd be happy to shout you out in the finished book.

Also according to forum member Pakman's episode guide, the Hughes brothers actually directed the episode of AMW fugitive Sophie David. She was aired on the show multiple times so I will have to look up if they have dates listed for her profile archive. (Sophie David was pretty well-known to AMW fans because the actress who played her did such a good job SHE was stopped by police numerous times and had to get a note explaining she was the actress, if I recall correctly. The actual Sophie David is seemingly still at large. amwfans.com/thread/1314/complete-amw-episode-guide-2002

Thanks much, commissioner! I wonder about this 1990ish episode, set in Wichita, which seems to (also?) feature Turner as the gang-initiated "Charlie Green"? www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSAUChy8mt4And any other leads on the episode directed by the Hughes brothers would be great!

Found an article from December 25th, 1992 about police seizing a woman mistaken for Sophie David. (maybe I'm not remembering correctly or mixing up cases but I can swear the actress who played David was mistaken for her as well). So at least we now know David was somewhere around Christmas time in 1992. articles.latimes.com/1992-12-25/local/me-2516_1_north-hollywood-apartment

Really glad to help. For what it's worth December 18th 1992 could be a possible air date for the first airing of the Sophie David segment since it is the closest to the day the woman mistaken for her was confronted by authorities. (The episode summary doesn't mention her but sometimes AMW would profile multiple fugitives on a show but only one or two would be in the episode description). Good luck! amwfans.com/thread/1022/msn-tv-amw-episode-summaries

Found a Dec. 1992 reference to the wrong woman being confused for Sophie David, that mentions the show was aired in February and August 1992. Still going!

Well, I'm a little late to the party, but yes, the Hughes brothers did direct the Sophie David segment. David was wanted out of Los Angeles for killing her boyfriend. She was said to be extremely jealous and possessive, and police said she once framed her ex-husband for domestic assault because she didn't want to lose any of her money in a divorce.
David was first profiled in 1992 - my information says Feb. 14, 1992 was her first profile date, but that could be wrong. She was profiled several times over the years, though every profile I've seen of her was her abbreviated profile. The most complete profile I have of her is from April 2002, but even that profile is only about 3-4 minutes. She did have a full segment, but I've only seen it on "Final Justice," a spinoff of AMW that featured a combination of captured fugitives and ones still at large (sadly, the tape with that episode on it got ruined, so I no longer have it).
I think David's last profile was in 2009.
And, as others have said, the actress who played Sophie David in the reenactment was arrested more than once because people thought she actually was Sophie David. According to AMW's director, Tony Zanelotti, the show actually had to give her a special card that said, "No, I'm not Sophie David. I'm the actress that played her on America's Most Wanted."
Given how finicky YouTube is with AMW uploads, I'm hesitant to upload her segment, but I do have a copy of her abbreviated profile.
