(Note: Information I gathered are from articles from 1997, some details may have changed by now)
On March 4th, 1997, science teacher Prakash S. Pathmanathan was arrested after seven female students at Atlantic High School in Delray Beach (Florida) accused him of fondling them in his portable classroom. Pathmanathan worked in Atlantic's English for Speakers of Other Languages program. He was charged with with two counts of lewd assault and five counts of battery.
Pathmanathan allegedly made one girl watch a video depicting sexual activity while she sat on his lap, according to court documents. Others said he kissed and hugged them against their will. One said he asked her to remove her pants so he could fix her zipper.
Prakash was said to potentially face between eight and 13 years in prison. In November of 1997, a plea was discussed that would have given Pathmanathan five years probation with no jail time. The plea bargain was overruled by a judge after a court-appointed guardian stated that Pathmanathan's alleged victims wanted to see him go to jail.
Unfortunately, Pathmanathan would not receive any punishment at all as he somehow became a wanted fugitive. He is listed in the wanted archives on the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office website as an at-large fugitive and a search of Florida's public access wanted persons search shows him as having a 1998 warrant for "Bail- Secured Bond" as of this posting date. (September 29th, 2018). This is speculation on my part but reasonable speculation that in my opinion he likely fled while out on bail.

Thoughts? First off, the judge was absolutely right to reject that ridiculous plea bargain. Unfortunately, the same justice system unfortunately also made a crucial mistake in seemingly letting him out on bond. Articles state Pathmanathan is from Sri Lanka, so I fear the prospects of likelihood of extradition if he fled back there. However, I still wanted to post this case since those girls deserve justice, even 20 years later, if Pathmanathan is still out there and can be brought back and proven guilty.
