Unsolved Mysteries coming back on Netflix!!!

UM returns on the 18th, with threee straight weeks of 3 episodes released at a time.

Hopefully volume 4 is better but after basically enjoying the first 2 volumes- actually pleasantly surprised even- I feel this current volume 3 on Netflix is a step down. Cases dragged out even longer. Also I get this is Unsolved Mysteries and it's a mixture of crime and entertainment/overall mysteries, so I've always given leeway to was it a suicide/accident or murder cases shown here even though they're overall my pet peeve and most hated type of crime case (because I'm sorry there are exceptions but MOST of those actually are accident/suicides and the families are in denial- sorry to be blunt about it), but there comes a point where too many are being done when ruled homicides are being forgotten about. Or at least pick better ones. The first case- a girl was said to have threw herself in front of train tracks- and the family was convinced it was actually murder- their whole theme was how happy she seemed and she would never do that. It bothers me that in 2022- people still don't get suicide and that seemingly happy people commit suicide out of nowhere all the time. Not to mention, the victim was a gay basketball player- and the mother seemed to have hate in her voice when talking about her daughter's girlfriend- and it's like yeah- wonder what that's about and why she'd want to kill herself.

I will give the other case was more of an unexplained death case (man in Vegas who died of a supposed drug overdose just days after his business rival got out of prison) and left a little more room for debate- but still- can you show SOME actual ruled homicides as well. (Edit: I accidentally skipped over the Patrick Mullins episode which I think for sure actually was a murder- but that was an unexplained death case not ruled suicide or murder and A) Doesn't make up for the fact no bona fide ruled homicide cases were in this volume and B) The most likely suspect is deceased- not that I don't feel terrible for Mullins and his family- but this is a difficult case to solve because of that- solvable cases should be taken into account into episode selection even though i get the intrigue for viewers angle)


Also the episode about a UFO sighting- the original Unsolved Mysteries did these all the time in like 10 minutes- it dragged out way too long then there was an episode about paranormal investigators- which wasn't even technically about any unsolved mysteries- but about all the ghostly/UFO/eerie things they seemed to come across. It was interesting I guess- but sort of a wasted episode imo.

As I said I thought the highlight of this current volume was the parental abduction cases and showing two cases with additional PSA parental abduction photos flashed at the bottom of the screen afterwards- but they could have also done that for fugitives as well- after the Tamera Williams episode- show like 5-10 fugitives also wanted by the U.S. Marshals- how hard would that have been.

Sorry for the rant- just disappointed since I actually really liked the first two volumes of the reboot and have been very disappointed with this current season- it's like they decided to overall just try for entertainment with little focus on crime solving this year. And yeah hopefully they focus on that next time.
