Bumping up/pinning Smika to top of this section in anticipation of his In Pursuit profile this season. Smika, who was also once an AMW web-exclusive, will be the first ever fugitive from 'The Hunt' to get an In Pursuit profile as well. Some of us have expressed not criticism but surprise Smika is getting another airing considering he's a cold case the previous most recent John Walsh show already did (as opposed to a new cold case and/or unused since AMW cold case). However, I take it perhaps The Hunt got good tips on his whereabouts and that's why he's getting another full profile. Of course they'll shut all of us up if Smika becomes a direct capture so I hope they shut all of us up.

The one thing the Thayne Smika manhunt has going for itself that many other 1980s fugitive cases don't is pretty confirmation of whereabouts up until approx. 2007 (according to the FBI poster). So with that in mind, it's not technically that cold.

So with that in mind, it's not technically that cold. This case is similar to the now captured Robert Van Wisse, as many of you may remember, they had confirmation of his whereabouts till about 2002. Also another plus side to this case is that Smika is only 59/60 as of 2019, which doesn’t make him the oldest fugitive by any stretch. These characteristics make him a possible FBI Top Ten Contender, however I’m curious if he’ll be added after the fact when a slot opens up.

Oddly no UFAP warrant comes up for Smoke in PACER search when we know he has one, but maybe it is due to oddness of the case.
