Many AMW fans may recall the story of Natasha. Natasha was a victim of sex trafficking who told her story in the hopes of capturing Leland Reed (whose real name would turn out to be James Joseph Jr.) aka "Spyder", her alleged Pimp. He was indirectly captured a few hours before the broadcast in 2010, and AMW showed Natasha when Spyder was sentenced to 2 years in prison in the 2012 sex trafficking special on Lifetime. Spyder has now been indicted on new charges involving a sex trafficking ring ran out of Northern California since 2001. www.contracostatimes.com/breaking-news/ci_28721533/tri-valley-sex-trafficker-had-sordid-past

Is it sad that this doesn't surprise me at all? At least it proves that investigators haven't given up on him and are doing everything they can to put him away forever.

I thought the initial 2-year sentence was incredibly light although it still seemed to satisfy Natasha. (Sex Trafficking sentences have gotten stricter recently). But yeah, it's not really surprising, and while still sad, at least Spyder will hopefully be held accountable if convicted on these new charges.

A whopping two years in prison didn't convince "Spyder" to give up trafficking young women for $30,000 a month. Some people prefer committing horrible crimes against people for that kind of lifestyle rather than trying to get a legitimate career. He will never change his behaviour because this is probably all that he knows how to do.

Spyder's new trial has begun. Also here is an interesting tidbit about why he was not counted as a direct capture despite his arrest on the same night as the AMW airing: "That same year, “America’s Most Wanted” filmed an episode about her, and started looking into Joseph’s still-active warrant from New York. U.S. Marshals, when contacted by the show’s producers, apparently realized Joseph was still on federal probation with a listed address; they took him into custody, as AMW cameras rolled, roughly a year after New York authorities had declined to have him extradited on the same warrant." I still say AMW inspired them to re-look further into it and you can argue should have been a direct capture after all, but obviously since the show's no longer on the air it's now a moot point. www.eastbaytimes.com/2017/06/10/infamous-danville-sex-trafficking-case-comes-to-trial-defendant-spyder-featured-on-americas-most-wanted/

AMW was doing a lot of weird things with captures around that time. That's also about the same time Jerome Handy was found dead and ID'D via an AMW tip but they never counted it as direct. That's despite the fact that Esat Bici was marked as a direct capture pretty much via the exact same method.

Another update: MARTINEZ — In 2014, a woman known to the world only as “Jane Doe 5” was working as a waitress in a southeastern strip club called the Pink Pony when a customer approached her with an offer to work for him as a makeup artist. She testified Thursday that it was her “dream” to do makeup for models, and that she thought the encounter was fated. “I thought it was meant to be,” she testified Thursday, and said she agreed to meet the man two days later. But then he told her there was a catch; she’d have to start out as a prostitute and work her way up. She agreed, but soon, she realized there was no way out, she testified. “He would say, ‘If you leave, I’ll come find you,'” Doe 5 testified, holding back tears. She added later that he took away her passport and ID, and would let her use them only when she was instructed to go on trips to meet johns. That, Doe 5 testified, was her introduction to James Vernon Joseph Jr., 52, who along with Avisa Lavassani, 36, is charged with running a nationwide sex trafficking ring out of Danville. They face charges of conspiracy and kidnapping a woman, as well as charges of human trafficking, defined by state law as forcing someone into the sex trade. Joseph also faces numerous charges of rape and sodomy. Joseph and Lavassani were arrested in 2015 after a San Ramon police wiretap investigation dubbed Operation Venom caught Joseph on tape saying he used fear to control prostitutes working for him, authorities said. The pair allegedly advertised women as high paid escorts; Doe 5 described going to an Usher concert in Las Vegas, New York Yankees games, helicopter rides, and vacations with johns, adding that one man paid $25,000 to spend a week with her and two other women. Doe 5 also testified about being arrested as part of Operation Venom. She said she was about to travel from the East Coast to the Playboy Mansion when she was detained by California authorities, who told her she wouldn’t be charged if she agreed to testify truthfully. She said she agreed, and was excited for an escape, noting she’d tried to leave twice before but that Joseph had gotten wind of it and stopped her. The main prosecution witness is expected to testify Thursday afternoon. She is a woman who has appeared on America’s Most Wanted and other national media outlets and said Joseph and Lavassani kidnapped her into the sex trade in 2001, after approaching her at a mall in Livermore under the guise of hiring her as a makeup artist. www.eastbaytimes.com/2017/06/22/danville-sex-trafficking-case-woman-describes-traveling-the-country-as-an-escort-says-i-couldnt-leave/
