Authorities are searching for the killer of Mary Drake and Mani Alexander in Great Bend, Kansas. AMW aired this case on their radio program in 2003, but never featured it on the show or the 2004-2012 website. On Sep 4, 2002, a deliveryman went inside a bakery and found the bodies of 79-year old Mary Drake and 24-year old Mani Alexander. Both women had their throats slit. A little after 6pm and before the bodies were discovered, a customer went to the bakery when an unidentified white male walked out and told the customer that the bakery was closed. This man has never been identified. He is described as 6'1-6'2, 175lbs, collar length blond to light brown hair and is believed to be a transient. Thoughts? The AMW Radio page did mention a rumor that the murders were a hit on Mani Alexander, however I don't know if investigators were ever able to validate that. If that's not the motive then robbery is the most likely possibility. Since the killer is believed to be a transient, he could be anywhere now. According to the AMW archive, although money was missing from the cash register, investigators didn't believe robbery was the motive due to the increase risk associated with the time of day. Is it still possible it was a robbery gone bad? But the brutal way in which Mary & Mani were killed seems rather personal. It could have been a disgruntled customer...
