Cops: Car Dealer Scammed Dozens Of Drivers
Cops in Colorado say 49-year-old Wayne Weaver was behind a car dealership scam that affected dozens of customers hoping to become car owners.
Cops say Weaver sold cars to his car dealership customers but never gave them the titles. Cops say that was in part because Weaver never officially purchased the cars from a financing company in the first place.
According to cops, Weaver also failed to pay for vehicles that had been traded in.
The investigation into Weaver's car dealership started back in 2008, and in January 2009 a grand jury indicted Weaver with 24 counts of defrauding a secured creditor and 54 counts of theft. That's when he took off and hasn't been seen since.
Cops say the investigation involved 150 vehicles and over 1.3 million dollars of losses.
Weaver has a background in martial arts and has been known to enter kickboxing tournaments.
They also say Weaver likes to gamble so he could possibly be found in Las Vegas.
Thoughts? Wayne Weaver was aired once on AMW in February of 2011. I was discussing this case with pakman who had a hunch Weaver may have been captured since it seemed AMW was getting ready to profile him for the October 2011 50/50 show but aired another fugitive instead. Needless to say, I was surprised when I learned he is in fact still wanted as of this posting date (10/29/2014). But pakman correctly did say it's best not to just rely on gut instinct.
It seems cops think Weaver may be in Las Vegas, but any fugitive that takes that much money could have financed a run anywhere in my opinion. But wherever he is, he needs to pay for his alleged cons.
Also, somewhat off-topic but this is another case of a fugitive sharing the same name as a public figure. Wayne Weaver is the name of a businessman who used to own the Jacksonville Jaguars. But he's a different guy so please don't call Crime Stoppers on him. Owning a crappy NFL team doesn't make you a criminal. But allegedly conning hard workers who were hoping to make a good purchase on a vehicle does.
UPDATE: Aside from the Jaguars not being as crappy as of lately, I could find no new articles online about the manhunt for Weaver in the past few years. He was confirmed to still be at large at the time of the original posting date (10/29/2014). As far as I can tell, he is still at large as of this update (7/22/2018), but if anyone has any updates/proof-of-updates one way or the other, they are always more than welcome to let us know.
