Garrett Bardsley has been missing from Utah for over a decade. He was an AMW web-exclusive case. The folowing is his archived profile:
Wrong Path Leads To Disappearance
On Friday, August 20, 2004 Garrett Bardsley and his dad, Kevin, were camping in the Utah woods on Uinta Mountain. They were fishing on the lake, 200 yards from the campsite. Garrett wanted to go back to the campsite to get a pair of dry shoes. His dad, Kevin, was watching from the lake and saw Garrett start to wander down the wrong path. Kevin told him to go back and retrace his steps. That was the last time anyone saw Garrett.
Dangers In The Woods
Only 15 minutes passed from the time Kevin Bardsley saw his son walk towards camp to when Kevin returned to the site. Trip coordinators say they picked the spot because it was sheltered, had easily identifiable natural landmarks and was seemingly difficult to get lost in.
But, unfortunately, the area around the campgrounds is more treacherous. Cops say there is a big river in the area, high sharp cliffs, boulders and, at night, the air is frigid.
After about 5 days, the search was no longer slated to be for a missing person. Instead, it became a recovery mission.
Searching Every N ook And Cranny
Family members, neighbors, friends and church goers aided officials in the search for missing Garrett Bardsley. But spirits are dimming. Although almost a year has passed, and winter in the mountains came and left, cops say they owe it to the family to continue searching until Garrett, or his body, is found.
Garrett was last seen wearing a t-shirt, black hooded sweatshirt, red sweatpants and Converse tennis shoes.
Thoughts? It seems sadly Garrett may have died in an accident in the treacherous woods, but sadly, that theory provides no closure to the Bardsley family since he's still missing. This is also though a case of good coming out of tragedy. Garrett's father started the Garrett Bardsley Foundation. In addition to building a school in Ecuador in Garrett's name, the foundation also established a well-trained and well-equipped search group to help in other cases. (It's main mission is search and rescue operations in the wilderness).
It's inspiring, and all the more reason the Bardsley family deserves answers in this case.
