Ok I'm posting a second case today since I'm bored and expect a busy and possibly snowy Super Bowl weekend here in the Northeast. Robert Baldwin has been an escaped Florida inmate since 1988. He was listed on AMW's website as a web-exclusive. Below is a breakdown of his history from the archive:
Two-Time Prison Escapee On The Run For More Than 20 Years
Robert Baldwin escaped from prison for the second time in 1988 and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is determined to put him behind bars for good this time.
On May 13, 1970, Baldwin held a sheriff's deputy and police officer at gunpoint during a traffic stop, then fled in a cop car, according police.
The next day he kidnapped an elderly couple in Holiday, Fla., and forced them to drive him to Citrus County, Fla., where he fled into a state forest.
Baldwin was arrested for his crimes on May 15, 1970, but escaped from the Glades Correctional Institution in March 1976.
He ran from police for two years before he was arrested again and given a life sentence. He escaped again in July 1988, and he's been on the run ever since.
“Baldwin is facing life in prison and probably believes he has nothing to lose,” said FDLE Tampa Bay Special Agent in Charge Jim Madden. “He has eluded authorities for way too long, and it is time this violent fugitive is put behind bars permanently.”
FDLE Hunts Cold Case Fugitive
Baldwin has worked as an auto mechanic, truck driver and plumber. He uses the aliases Bob Lawrence Baldwin, Gene Lewis Miller and William Mead.
Now Baldwin has earned a spot on the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's list of cold cases they're determined to solve.
Thoughts? Baldwin would be pushing 70 today so whether he has worked or not, he may be retired somewhere. A lot of these prisons escapees and older fugitives- despite some of the violent crimes they committed- often surprisingly wind up with a quiet suburban life with a wife and/or children. Despite Baldwin's violent history, it wouldn't surprise me if that was the case here. For a prison escapee to go under the radar for this long, it could mean he seems like a normal married guy that wouldn't raise any suspicions.
