[/p](As of January 2004, based on FBI.Gov website archives)[/p]
Name: Hai Thanh Le (aliases: Teo Nguyen, Hai Lee) Sex: Male Race: Asian (Vietnamese) Date of Birth: 03/22/1980 (also used 5/24/1981) Place of Birth: Vietnam Height: 5'8 Weight: 145 pounds Eyes: Brown Hair: Black Scars/Tattoos: None known Who to call if you've seen him: Nearest FBI field office or embassy or submit a web tip at tips.fbi.gov.
Hai Thanh Le is wanted for his role in the attempted murder of a police officer, an attack which left the officer paralyzed.
On November 19, 2002, off-duty NYPD officer Hung Nguyen was visiting a friend at his bar in Jersey City, New Jersey. Also there were Uyen "Wendy" Nguyen Le, Mai "Mike" Nguyen, Hai Thanh Le and Binh Nguyen. All four were members of a local oriental gang. When the bar owner tried closing the bar, the four refused to leave. Hung Nguyen intervened after the four became rowdy, and got them to leave. They quickly came back and attacked the officer. Using bar stools, the four beat Nguyen over his head, neck, and back. He suffered two broken bones in his arms, and two crushed vertebraes in his back. He was left paralyzed from the chest down. Binh Nguyen and Mike Nguyen quickly turned themselves in, but siblings Wendy Nguyen Le and Hai Thanh Le went on the run. After being profiled on AMW in 2003, Wendy Le was arrested in the "Little Saigon" neighborhood near Los Angeles as a direct result from a tip from AMW. They questioned her regarding her brother's whereabouts, but she did not cooperate, stating she hadn't seen him since the incident. Hai Thanh Le is still on the run.
Thoughts? Le was born in Vietnam, and the FBI believed the four may have been trying to flee there shortly after the crime. There's a good chance he eventually fled there after all this time. Then again, he could be hiding out in some Vietnamese community anywhere in this country.
Thoughts?

Considering the fact that a police officer was nearly murdered and AMW tips led to the arrest of one of the attackers, I'm guessing they concluded that Hai Thanh Le made it to Vietnam, otherwise he probably would have been aired after 2003. The only online article I found regarding this case was from the Los Angeles Times in 2003 after Wendy Nguyen was caught.

I was concerned to see if the statute of limitations may have run out, given that it's been 12 years. Not really familiar with the statutes, so I can't really say if it has or not. Also, I do find it weird the FBI took him off their most wanted lists online after only a year and a half. Even if he fled to Vietnam, the FBI has fugitives that are more than likely in Russia, and I believe it would be easier to get a fugitive from Vietnam than Russia. I just don't know what to think of if.

Statutes of limitations typically only involved fugitives who are not known, so I doubt that's the reason (unless New Jersey might have a different law). It's also possible that maybe his federal charges were dropped, which is why the FBI wouldn't have him on their site anymore.
I definitely agree that it's very strange that Le apparently has no information about him online. It doesn't help that the photo of Le isn't the best quality.
Here's some more information from Le's AMW profiles: - He and Wendy were supposed to surrender in February 2003 after the Chinese New Year, but never followed through on their plans. - John Walsh referred to Le as "Teo Nguyen" (or possibly "Theo Nguyen") during the fugitive recap on Le's first profile. Not sure if that's one of his aliases or not.

Everyone here has done such an excellent job at commenting I have nothing to add. Just wanted to say good to see a Czar case again and I'm impressed you included the stats and tip info!

Yeah, Teo Nguyen was an alias of his. Just edited it to include it.
I remember thinking, when this case first aired, about how poor the photos were of all four attackers. I actually thought Wendy Nguyen's photo was a composite sketch.
And yeah, I was lucky. Just browsing FBI most wanted archive pages when I saw Le's pic was actually up. Before that, I could never find one, so I decided to jump on it. It had also been way too long since I did one.

Somehow AMW obtained a better photo of her for Wendy's October 2003 profile, which I'm pretty sure is what led to her capture.

No way to officially know but I'm assuming Le is still at large as of this update (7/14/2018) since I've found nothing online to suggest otherwise.
Of course, as always, if anyone has any updates/proof-of-updates one way or the other, they can always feel free to let us know.

I have no doubt Uyen "Wendy" Nguyen Le knew where he was at when she was caught and likely does now but she hasn't given him up yet and she likely never will.

Yeah, I remember on the old site that they said she was uncooperative as to where he was located. Not a surprise. She hated police enough to take part in a beating of a cop and was from all reports close to her brother. No way was she going to roll on him.

I don’t know that he’s necessarily in Vietnam. Keep in mind, everyone else in this case was caught in the US.

Yes, when Wendy Nguyen was captured, she had hundreds of dollars in cash and a passport on her. Authorities believe she was about to flee before that AMW tip found her.
