The 10-year anniversary of the disappearance of Danielle Imbo and Richard Petrone is coming up. The case was first aired on AMW on March 12th, 2005. Below is a new article on the case.
It’s been nearly 10 years since Danielle Imbo, of Mount Laurel, and Richard Petrone Jr., of Philadelphia, left a bar shortly before midnight only to vanish into thin air, launching a missing-persons case that has left two families devastated and authorities baffled.
Friday will mark a decade since the pair, 34 and 35 at the time, left Abilene’s on Philadelphia’s South Street on Feb. 19, 2005.
The FBI’s Philadelphia division is marking the grim milestone with a news conference to announce a renewed effort in the cold case, which has been considered a homicide investigation for several years. The federal agency will work with the Mount Laurel and Philadelphia police departments, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey State Police to review the case files again for something — anything — that might lead them to a clue.
“Somebody has to know something,” said FBI Supervisory Special Agent J.J. Klaver.
Both Cherry Hill natives, Imbo was a single mother to a 20-month-old son and in the process of divorcing her estranged husband. She worked from home for a mortgage company.
Petrone worked at his family’s bakery, Viking Pastries in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, and was father to a teenage daughter.
Imbo and Petrone had dated previously, but were just friends at the time of their disappearance, family members have said.
Petrone was supposed to drive Imbo back to her condominium on Dunbarton Road, but police say they never made it. Family members reported them missing the next day after phone calls went unanswered and appointments were missed.
Their cellphones and credit cards were not used, and Petrone’s black Dodge Dakota also went missing. The vehicle never appeared on surveillance tapes of Delaware River bridges.
Investigators have conducted dozens of interviews; fielded hundreds of tips; and searched the neighborhoods surrounding the bar along with properties, lakes, rivers, shipyards and landfills in Florida, Illinois, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. A month after the disappearance, the story was televised on “America’s Most Wanted.” That April, the Petrone family organized a search in the New Jersey Pine Barrens.
But, like the old saying, the pair had disappeared without a trace.
Although authorities began to suspect a murder-for-hire plot three years into the investigation, they ultimately found no financial or emotional motive for anyone to kill them. No suspects have ever been named, but there have been persons of interest, authorities have said.
Early in the investigation, Imbo’s estranged husband, Joseph Imbo Jr., said he was questioned by authorities and passed a lie detector test. As for his alibi, he was with family in Toms River, Ocean County. The couple’s son went to live with Imbo, who had moved to North Carolina.
Attempts to reach Danielle Imbo’s brother, who has spoken to the media on behalf of the family, and Petrone’s parents for comment were unsuccessful.
Imbo’s mother previously said she had dinner with her daughter that night at another South Philadelphia venue, Chickie’s & Pete’s. Felice Ottobre told reporters that family gathered at Imbo’s condo and slept there for the week after the disappearance.
At the time, Ottobre cried and recalled that her daughter had been happy and optimistic.
“She sounded so good and so excited about the future. She wanted to concentrate on raising her son,” she said.
Last year, in time for the ninth anniversary of the disappearance, the FBI blanketed Philadelphia and South Jersey with 25 digital billboards projecting the images of Imbo and Petrone.
The Citizens Crime Commission is offering a $50,000 reward in exchange for information about the case, which remains an open investigation.

Thoughts? Obviously a few theories have been floated around. Hopefully the 10-year anniversary will bring renewed attention and focus on the case.
