Jose "Baby" Hernanez is one of the Alameda County Sheriff's Offices Most Wanted fugitives, and was aired on the May 26th, 2007 episode of America's Most Wanted. Below is the profile description from the archive:
A Birthday Celebration Turned Deadly
January 19, 2007 was supposed to be a magical night for high school senior, Cynthia Franco...it was her 18th birthday. Her family allowed her to have an alcohol-free chaperoned party and her older brother was going to DJ the evening turning the living room of the Franco home into a nightclub.
As the party progressed throughout the night, there were as many as 60-100 people at the Franco residence, mostly friends and family. However, cops say that the event hit MySpace and soon there were some uninvited guests.
Authorities say that sometime after 10:15pm, six members of the Oakland 'Border Brothers' gang showed up and started causing trouble by shouting out gang affiliations and disrupting the party. Cynthia's brothers Sergio, Saul, Jose Jr, and a friend Fernando Lopez, asked the young men to stop which escalated into a verbal argument. Soon, police say a large brawl broke out and one of the gang members, Jose Hernandez, pulled out a 9mm handgun and shot up the dancefloor. Sergio was shot three times while Fernando Lopez was shot twice and died instantly.
Partygoers start to flee and Saul and Sergio tackled Hernandez in the kitchen. However, during the struggle, Sergio was shot again. As Hernandez breaks free and bolts out the front door, Sergio bleeds to death in a back bedroom.
Cops are currently looking for Jose "Baby" Hernandez for his suspected involvement in the deaths of Fernando Lopez and Sergio Franco. Authorities believe that he may be hiding out in Oakland or Tracy, California.
Thoughts? I realize MySpace is no longer as popular as it used to be but back in the day it was the website EVERYONE went to, and this was in 2007 so I can imagine how crazy things that after the party got posted on there.
And Jose's nickname might have been "baby" and he might have been only 19-years old, but there's nothing child-like about committing a double homicide. I've said it about guys wanted at a young age like Michel Barrera. Some people might just think of these guys as young punks, and while they're correct, it is still rather scary when someone gets started killing people and they aren't even legally allowed to drink yet.
Way back in 2007, AMW theorized Hernandez could still be in the area. Usually guys as dangerous as Hernandez don't leave the gang life no matter how old they get, so it wouldn't surprise me if he was still in the Bay Area even after nearly 8 years.
