In a surprise considering the reboot did not do well ratings wise in 2021, it has been announced that AMW's revival which we all thought was cancelled was renewed after all and will be coming back to Fox next January after a long hiatus. This thread is to discuss the show. I will be blunt- I was not that big a fan of the initial reboot- mainly beause I felt it was treated too much like a news/entertainment show and not a publc service show. However- it was the first season and they did have some captures off of it. It has not been announced yet whether Elizabeth Vargas will return as host- I hope she does- as she was the one aspect I did not have a complaint about and felt she did an excellent job despite John Walsh's very tough shoes to fill. Let's hope for the best and that now that the show has had a season to figure things out that it will be a much better show! deadline.com/2023/11/americas-most-wanted-revival-fox-season-2-1235633148/

Also, one thing that might be a weird analogy that does give me hope- the US version of The Office- which went on to be a massive hit- almost got cancelled after it's first season as a midseason replacement due to poor ratings and not being well received by fans. However, NBC took a chance and renewed them. The show fixed what didn't work in the first season- mainly that it was trying too hard to be a carbon copy of the British version when Americans have a different style of humor. Steve Carrell's main character of Michael Scott had his character changed from a mean spirited racist and sexist boss like Ricky Gervais's David Brent to one that was still an ignoramus but from a childlike place of well-meaninngness and wanting to be the center of attention as a lonely man/product of divorce. (hence why he probably hated Toby lol). As a result, the more likeable Scott became one of the funniest characters in sitcom history and the show took off as well.
So now AMW 2.0 or 3.0 or whatever it is like The Office US has a second season to right the ship, be their own show and not try too hard to be original AMW etc... we shall see.

For what it's worth- I tweeted producer John Ferracane to bring back Liz Vargas but get rid of Nancy Grace lol

How helpful could it be if they don't take any leaves out of Live PD's book this time?

They were trying a bit too hard to be like Live PD in Season 1 I agree. I have nothing against Live PD which is now On Patrol: Live and watch when I get a chance but new AMW needs to be its own thing.

The Actor's strike and the lack of scripted shows premiering until most likely Spring 2024 probably convinced FOX to give the new AMW another season. Lots of timeslots to fill.

It is kind of ironic that AMW was canceled on Fox in 2011 in part due to budget cuts and costing too much and now it was possibly brought back as a cheaper alternative to scripted programming.
I also think it was possible this was the plan all along- AMW was never officially announced as canceled by Fox- so it's possible they always intended to bring it back as an every now and then and not every year show (sort of like when they still had quarterly specials after being cancelled as a weekly program by Fox) as opposed to full blown on AMW again.
I also want to stress it is a net positive AMW was brought back (as long as they don't make Nancy Grace host- in which case I'd boycott- how tone deaf were tbtp to how generally Grace is viewed as the anti-John Walsh?)- and if you were to put a gun to my head (sorry for the poor choice of words) of course I'd prefer it come back to not coming back.
I just hope they improve on Season 1 which I say was not THAT bad and had some positives- especially some captures- but was overall somewhat of a disappointment for me.

Really odd that the show is coming back after being put on hiatus for 3 years, also I really hope Liz Vargas hosts this show for the upcoming season, reason being is that for me at least I see the 2021-Present iteration of this AMW as synonymous with Liz Vargas, and now that the show has returned with her as host in 2021, I don’t think there’s anyone more capable than her doing this show, if it’s not broke don’t fix it.
The Walsh father and son duo are on ID discovery doing In Pursuit, and they’ve been doing it for a couple of years at this point, and I don’t think that’s going to change as of now at least.
As for their case selections, I’m curious as to what they’ll do, while lately In Pursuit has been airing for the most part recent cases and some unheard of cold case fugitives, the 2021 season of AMW selected a lot of cases many of us are familiar with and for good reason, to try and pull its old audience. I hope this upcoming season will be a mixture of recent unknown cases and some of the old AMW cases to balance everything out.

I mean this as no disrespect to Vargas but John or Cal would be the only two people that would justify replacing her- but since they’re still on ID we know that unfortunately isn’t a possibility.
Other than that, I agree with everything you said.

Like I said I mean no disrespect to Liz Vargas but while I was initially apprehensive about Fox bringing the reboot back since I felt it didn't work out in 2021 I found out a few days later John and Cal were the new hosts of course my reaction changed. I however was told I could not tell anyone under any circumstances on the forum or elsewhere (I didn't even tell HeadMarshal or pakman- the only people I told were my parents- who guessed I was the new host when I told them they'd never believe who the new host was- hahaha) Also, Liz Vargas was never coming back and Chris Hansen was actually going to be the new host before JW asked the ID channel to please make an exception in their contract since AMW is of course his legacy. (Bullet dodged in my opinion, Hansen is probably the most Walsh-esque true crime guy in terms of appearing as an authority figure- but he has too much personal life baggage for a show about holding people accountable).
AMW is now back with the Walsh family where it belongs. (With no disrespect to Vargas- she did a good job and it wasn't her fault but 2021 proved it didn't matter who the host was of AMW if the Walsh name wasn't attached to it).
To say I'm stoked would be an understatement. I'm also impressed with myself that I was able to keep this a secret lol.
In Pursuit is also going to air although the next season will likely be its' last.
