Overall I will say that Season 27 is off to an excellent start. Good for them to pick fugitives that have a legitimate opportunity to be caught by viewer's tips. Also having the relatives of the victims in the studio seems more authentic and it makes it seem like they care about the victims.
Regarding the caught-on tape segments, if they can make at least one of the three about an actual fugitive, then I can tolerate them.
The only thing I have to suggest is that JW in his late 70s should shave his beard. That wouldn't instill fear in criminals. He actually looks more intimidating with Callahan next to him.

I'm not a big caught on camera guy in general but I feel it sort of reflects modern times in trying to combine elements of what works in other suchs like On Patrol Live with what worked for AMW. So I understand it's not for me but appealing to a mass audience who likes that kind of stuff. Sometimes we do have to think of what works for mass appeal and not just us. As far as the beard, I feel that it isn't necessary for JW to instill fear in criminals, yes he has always had an authorative presence which adds to the vibe but what has truly always worked was his authenticity in getting the viewer to trust him to send him in a crucial tip and know they can remain anoynmous. So I feel he still looks trustworthy with his beard- who wouldn't trust the Santa of true crime? (meant lovingly of course lol). And Cal appears trustworthy too of course.

Also no promo at the end of the episode for Nancy Grace was wonderful.

Also no promo at the end of the episode for Nancy Grace was wonderful. Darn I had forgot about her before you mentioned it lol. But overall I like the set up of just interviewing victims and maybe having an expert or special guest here or there. I love Paul Holes but he didn't really fit the show- fugitives aren't really his area of expertise solving cold case murders is and a host can say where someone possibly is and you don't need him to point on a map. Yodit Teowolde didn't really offer much either tbh. This was a much better studio set up too imo with just John and Cal and every segment they're talking to one different person or two people only.

My favorite part was those carjackers who don’t know how to drive manual transmission

That scene near the end with that mom who lost her 15 year old daughter to fentanyl just broke my heart

It does look like the ratings were unfortunately low though but hopefully that improves especially after some captures. Once again though the show being bought back after 2021’s not so great numbers tells me at least hopefully- Fox isn’t judging AMW by ratings as much as other shows and it is cheap filler on a traditional off night that does a good public service. Just wanted to update that once but I don’t want to go as crazy over ratings as I did in the past. tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/americas-most-wanted-season-27-ratings/

But I also agree it does not make sense for FOX to bring back a show with low ratings if ratings were the number one priority. I agree that producing the show is probably much cheaper compared to most other tv shows.

Their highest performing show is the Simpsons which only has an 0.7 so I think overall Fox shows are just there and thus a little more leeway for ratings for them

I wonder if the low rating is due to people not knowing it was coming back with John and Callaghan Walsh?
Jerri Williams, a retired FBI agent who has written novels and runs a podcast called “FBI: Retired Case Value Review” didn’t even know it was coming back. She only found out as I asked whether she was excited for it in the comments of one of her YouTube videos. She said she didn’t even know it was happening.
By the way, I would highly recommend Jerri Williams podcast as she covers different cases by talking to the FBI agents who were involved! Amongst the cases she has covered is the abduction and murder of Polly Klaas. I asked her if she could talk about the Jaycee Dugard case and she is currently in touch with Chris Campion who dealt with Jaycee’s case from the beginning!

Could be part of it but while still better than cable ALL of Fox’s non sports programming seems to not be doing well in the ratings compared to other abc cbs and fox. They brought it back despite it being the same story in 2021 so I’m not too worried about it for now.

Also should be stressed a lot of people may watch via Hulu and Fox Nation and DVR so we can’t judge based on just live ratings

Yes. TV is a different landscape now. Except for live sports or a culture phenomenon like Game of Thrones people don’t go out of their way to watch shows live anymore. The ratings weren’t great in 2021 for AMW and they brought the show back anyway. I didn’t know any better in 2021 so I panicked a bit. But I’m not so worried about ratings anymore. I just wanted to update and warn everyone in advance the ratings may not be awesome but not to panic Also to make people panic even less AMW had 2 million viewers. Relatively low by network standards until you see the highest rated show in the same time slot- America’s Got Talent- had 4 million- only double the amount . So basically every show on networks on Monday had low ratings. As long as it is not being embarrassed I think Fox will be patient and I’d say half of the top show isn’t too terrible (it’s only low compared to a more watched night of the week) tvline.com/ratings/the-bachelor-season-28-premiere-viewers-abc-1235137789/

Also from tv series finale which is echoing exactly what we said: Telly’s Take Will FOX cancel or renew America’s Most Wanted for season 28? The network has ordered very short seasons since reviving the show in 2021, so it seems the executives want to keep using it as a schedule filler. It appears to be inexpensive to produce, and people like feeling like they can be part of helping to catch bad guys. There’s a good chance the revival will return for a third year. I’ll update this page with breaking developments.
