Selvin Omar Lopez has been wanted by Texas authorities for over 5 years. I could swear he was aired but the latest archive I could find on him has him listed as a web-exclusive on AMW's website. Below is the archived description of his case:
Teenage Dad Gunned Down In Houston
Like most parents, Joseph Vasquez’s life changed forever the day his baby girl was born. The dreams of playing baseball were quickly replaced with the reality of providing for his girlfriend, Samantha, and their new little girl, Gia.
However, Joseph wasn’t your average young parent – Joseph was only 15 and partly through his sophomore year in high school. Despite those constraints, Joseph was wholly dedicated to Samantha and Gia – they became his entire life. Joseph made sure Samantha and Gia got to doctor’s appointments and were taken care of.
Joseph’s mom, Paula, was his sounding board. Paula didn’t want this life for her son – she had seen the pitfalls of not finishing school. Paula told Joseph he had to get a diploma before he could even think about getting a job. Joseph’s new plan? Get his GED and get a job when he turned 16 so he could give Gia anything and everything she needed. Sadly, Joseph never got the chance.
On Feb. 13, 2010, Joseph and his brother, Pete, were outside their dad's apartment complex in Houston. They were hanging out front when a girl from the neighborhood walked by. The brothers began to talk to her when someone got the jump on them. Joseph and Pete had never seen the guy before, but it didn’t seem to matter, the girl ignored him -- it seemed like she had better things to do. But that didn’t stop the three men from striking up a conversation.
Cops say at some point, small talk turned to teasing, and that teasing got the best of Joseph and Pete’s new acquaintance, Selvin Lopez.
Lopez took off, angry and fuming, but he didn’t stay gone for long. Police say Lopez came back with a handgun and unloaded 10 rounds -- eight of which found their way into Joseph Vasquez. The other two wounded Pete. Joseph died a short time later at a nearby hospital.
Cops say they soon pieced together who Selvin Lopez is – a 25-year-old Honduran immigrant with a penchant for dealing drugs and running and selling guns.
Houston cops traced Lopez to the border town of McAllen, Texas, and think he crossed the border within days of Joseph’s murder. Now, investigators believe that he could be on either side of the U.S.-Mexico border.
Thoughts? This is definitely a "senseless crime hall of fame." Lopez was 25-years old and couldn't take teasing from a couple of teenagers? If he can allegedly get angry over that, he can explode over anything, which is why he needs to get caught.
As far as whereabouts, even though he's from Honduras, which doesn't give the best chance at hope for a capture, I wouldn't be surprised if Lopez stayed in Mexico. I remember when we all thought Jesus Canales had fled to El Salvador since that's where he's from and he wound up getting caught in a small town in Mexico. Sometimes these guys find a place they're comfortable with and stay there.
