Richard Boakai was aired on the March 22nd, 2008 episode of America's Most Wanted. Below is the archive description of his alleged crimes:
Medical Student Accused Of Rape
Richard Boakai seemed to have a lot going for him. Originally from Liberia, he was in America studying medicine and was employed at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md. But unfortunately, police say Boakai was hiding a dark secret.
And to make the situation even worse, Boakai was able to keep his secret hidden for months before anyone figured out what was going on. According to police, Boakai began raping a 15-year-old girl in September 2006, and the abuse continued through March 2007.
The police became aware of the situation after the young girl confided in one of her teachers, and told her what had been happening for the past months. The girl claimed that she hadn't told her parents because she was afraid she would get in trouble.
Accused Rapist Takes Off
As soon as the police learned about what was going on, an arrest warrant was issued for Richard Boakai. The charges listed on the May 3, 2007 document were rape, sex offense, assault, and child abuse. But before the cops could catch up with Boakai, he disappeared, and he's been on the run ever since.
Police have spoken with Boakai's family members in Baltimore, Md. and San Jose, Calif., but nobody has heard from him since March or April 2006. Police say family members warned that Boakai is a head-strong and secretive person. They also fear that he could be depressed because of the allegations against him.
Detectives have not yet been able to track Boakai down. Police received information that Boakai applied for a VISA extension in Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Montana, but they have learned no additional information about his whereabouts since that time.
Thoughts? I found Boakai still has a warrant on file in the Baltimore County court case search, so for this reason I am assuming he is still at large. Kind of concerning if he's still working in a hospital. I guess the question is if he fled back to Liberia, or is still in the states, considering he applied for a VISA extension here.
