Calif. Teen's Birthday Bash Ends In Murder
Caroline Ong's 18th birthday party seemed to be the party to attend on the weekend of July 31, 2007.
The celebration, held in Rowland Heights, Calif. -- a suburb of Los Angeles -- was attended by close to 200 college and high school students. While drinks poured freely and many partygoers played games, few could have imagined the crime that was about to go down.
Police say 16-year-old Paul "Snoops" Kim, a known Wah Ching gang member, showed up to the party after being invited by a friend. Witnesses say that Kim and his pals were dressed in gang attire.
Sometime around 1:30 a.m., a verbal disagreement broke out between Kim and 17-year-old Boo Lee, who knew Caroline's boyfriend.
The verbal spat escalated, and cops say Kim stabbed Boo as the fight spilled out into the street. Authorities say one of Boo's friend's was also stabbed, and was sent to a local hospital.
Boo wouldn't be so lucky: police say he staggered towards his car and died at the scene.
Police in Los Angeles continue to search for Paul Kim, and say the 5'5" fugitive may have fled to Mexico, but could also be in Southern California -- or anywhere else in the country.
Thoughts? A lot of people like to think of teenage fugitives as just young punks (Kim is now 24), but the fact of the matter is if you can allegedly commit a homicide at such a young age, it is something that should be taken very seriously. Young punk? Perhaps, but still a very dangerous one.
Unfortunately there's just that grainy photo of him but the website escapingjustice.com, which was put together by the Los Angeles County DA's Office to track down a few fugitives (Toru Sakai and Taizhi Cui are also on the website) does have the photo in color and not just black-and-white. I'll post the link below.
I wouldn't be surprised if Kim was still in California with his gang helping him hide.
