Leydis Menendez Abdala was aired on the March 10th, 2007 episode of America's Most Wanted. She was also featured on AMW's website as part of their "My Story" series where a victim gets their written story to AMW seeking justice posted on amw.com. Below is that story:
My Story by Joaquin Freire
Hello my name is Joaquin Freire, I am a traffic enforcement officer for the City of Miami Police Department. I am writing this letter in hopes that you would help my mom and I seek justice for my sister.
My sister's name was Gloria M. Hall, 40. She was a caring friend, a beautiful sister, spectacular daughter, and most of all a loving mother. My sister was killed on August 12, 2006 by a young lady that ran a red light while driving under the influence (twice the legal limit). The horrible crash happened as my sister was en route to church for a church retreat. My sister leaves behind two young daughters who miss her terribly and to make a difficult situation even worse the young lady who took my sister's life is on the run and has not been seen in about a month.
As an officer I've encountered horrible accident scenes, but nothing I have witnessed could ever prepare me for what I witnessed that morning in August that took my sister's life. I passed the accident scene on my way home from work and did not realize it was my sister until I got a knock at the door. My sister's death has literally destroyed my family and has left a huge void in my heart.
Help Catch This Reckless Driver
Suspect Leydis Menendez Abdala, 33, is a Cuban immigrant. There is a warrant for her arrest in Miami, Fl and a $5,000 reward for information leading to her arrest. Detectives believe that she may still be in the Miami area and may be receiving assistance from friends and family.
I need your help as my hands are tied at this point and I desperately need to see that this young lady is held responsible for her careless actions ... Your show is my last attempt to showcase this fugitive and bring her to justice.
Thoughts? Yep, DUI and Florida AGAIN. (How many times have I said DUI and Florida again?) *sigh*. I also realize I've posted a bunch of these cases recently, but I'm simply posting as many cases as I can confirm left over from AMW's website, and this is a testament to A) How many cases there were involving these tragedies on AMW's website. and B) How considering Abdala still appears to be at large, that AMW unfortunately for some reason did not have as much luck with capturing DUI fugitives. (See Michele Comstock, Gloria Schulze, Sarkis Peltekian, Chris Ponce still not caught from The Hunt despite the publicity, etc.)
Wherever she is, I believe she can still be caught, even in Cuba considering relations have somewhat improved here.
It also enrages me when family are suspected of helping fugitives hide in DUI cases. It's bad enough when the fugitive doesn't want to take responsibility, but when family members help them avoid it as well instead of saying be responsible, it's even worse.
Let's finally get Gloria Hall's family the justice they've been seeking for nearly a decade.
