Jesus Lopez Gonzalez is one of the LAPD's Most Wanted fugitives and was aired on the March 26th, 2011 episode of America's Most Wanted. Below is the archive description of his case:
Violent Crash Leaves Three Young Men Dead
Just after 2 a.m. on the morning of June 29, 1996, Thomas Gibson, 23, Faustino Sanchez, 23, and Friedrich Allmendinger, 22, were driving home after picking up some late-night hamburgers when their lives came to a violent end in the blink of an eye.
That's because a 1989 Dodge Ram pickup truck blew through a red light at nearly 45 mph -- slamming into their '96 Volkswagen GTI and crushing it to pieces.
Thomas, Faustino and Friedrich didn't stand a chance, and died at the scene.
But according to witness reports, the driver of the Dodge Ram -- who cops later identified as Jesus Lopez Gonzalez -- emerged from his truck, picked his white cowboy hat up off of the passenger seat, and casually strolled away from the accident scene.
More than a decade has passed, and Gonzalez has never resurfaced.
Cops: History Of Arrests Fails To Deter Suspect
In the early 1990s, Gonzalez had been arrested numerous times for drug possession and trafficking-related offenses. He was convicted in 1994 for illegally discharging a firearm but was given probation and served no time in jail.
Though authorities have documented Gonzalez time and time again as a public menace, he was rarely convicted, and never given stiff penalties or held in jail for a lengthy period of time.
Cops say that because of his reckless, carefree ways, three innocent young men lost their lives. Now, detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department want nothing more than to lock Gonzalez up for good
Slippery Fugitive Flees To Mexico
Not much is known about Jesus Gonzalez, but cops have learned that he almost always wears a white cowboy hat.
Shortly after the accident, Gonzalez's family brought a certificate of his death to the bail bondsman who posted his bail after an arrest that occurred in the months before the crash.
The document stated that Gonzalez was shot and killed in Sinaloa, Mexico, in July 1996. But when cops looked into the certificate's authenticity, they learned that the truth was being obscured: The Mexican consulate determined the certificate was a fake. Gonzalez was actually alive and well.
In light of this revelation, authorities have been searching tirelessly for Gonzalez, so they can bring a sense of closure and justice to the families of the three men allegedly killed at his hands.
Authorities do believe Gonzalez fled to Sinaloa shortly after the triple-fatal crash, but have never been able to verify his exact whereabouts.
Wherever he is, detectives believe he could be using a bevy of names, including: Martin Armenta Rochin, Miguel Rodriguez, Miguel Rochin, Jesus Armenta Gonzalez, Aaron Contreras, or Juan Lara Feliz.
He also has at least one son, who may or may not be living with family in the greater Los Angeles area.
Thoughts? To quote John Walsh and fellow AMW fugitive William Greer, where Gonzalez is, I'm sure he's still wearing that stupid hat.
Seriously, this is an underrated case in my opinion. It's bad enough he killed three people in a hit-and-run but he has a lengthy criminal history with non-motor vehicle related crimes as well. One would think he fled to Mexico, but then I also say to myself why would he fake his death in Mexico? Specifically the exact same place (Sinaoloa) he was expected to be living? Although considering there's a cartel there, and Gonzalez has a history with drug trafficking, it wouldn't surprise me if he joined one.
