(Above photo credit: amw.com archives) Fugitive Profile as of June 20th, 2015: (based on 2011 AMW archive) Full Name: Jose Antonio Contreras Alvarez Sex: Male Race: Hispanic Current Age: 40-42 Height: 5'9"-5'10' Weight: 150-160 lbs. Hair (Color, Description, Facial Hair): Black, May wear his hair in a ponytail. Eyes: Brown Traits and Habits: Is a construction worker who lays Sheetrock. Last Seen: Mint Hill , NC Other Possible Locations: Atlanta , GA Who to call if you've seen him: Based on wanted location, our advice would be to call Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600Jose Alvarez, aired on the June 3rd, 2006 episode of America's Most Wanted, is wanted for questioning in the murder of his roommate. Below is the story from the AMW archives: Two Brothers, One MurderBrothers Hugo and Jose Alvarez had a few things in common with their 24-year-old roommate Albino Martinez. All three were illegal Mexican immigrants who worked construction and spoke little English. But on September 19, 2005, their differences were center stage after an argument stemming from a long-standing feud erupted between Hugo and Albino. According to police, Hugo cut Albino's throat, and in a grisly and desperate act, cut off the man's head, arms, and legs. Albino's dismembered torso was found inside the mobile home the three men shared, but his arms, legs, and head were scattered throughout a wooded area behind the home right outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. A Gruesome DiscoveryWhen police were called out to the trailer park where the murder took place, they thought they'd be dealing with a natural death case. But when they got inside the house and confronted Hugo Alvarez, they realized just how wrong they were. With the help of a translator, the Mint Hill (N.C.) police officer who responded says that Hugo Alvarez admitted to slitting Albino Martinez's throat, chopping up his body, and scattering the parts throughout a forest. Perhaps realizing that his guilt was evident, police say Hugo held out his arms in surrender and was promptly arrested. Following Hugo's arrest, police questioned his younger brother Jose about the murder, but couldn't hold him on any charges. Wanted for QuestioningAlthough Mint Hill police don't know Jose's level of involvement in Albino's murder, they want to find and re-question the only witness to this gruesome act. Cops think he's in Atlanta and may be trying to head further south to Louisiana or Mexico. Thoughts? I checked the NC inmate system and Hugo Alvarez is in there. He was sentenced to 18 years. However, I couldn't find Jose Alvarez so I am assuming he's still at large. The possible locations are mentioned in the U.S., but all we have is a grainy photo so this is probably a reason why he has been so difficult to locate whether he stayed in the U.S. or not. web.archive.org/web/20111110224815/http://www.amw.com/fugitives/brief.cfm?id=34838Admin Note: If you have any news-related updated information on this case, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form

I'm assuming Jose Alvarez is still at large as of this posting date (1/5/2018) since I see no articles stating otherwise. Just wanted to mention I realized the AMW archive says he's actually wanted out of Atlanta. So perhaps Mint Hill is simply where he attempted to hide Albino's body.
A bit confusing but changed the wanted state for now as a result.
A bit frustrating as well that I can't find much on this case.

I received an e-mail claiming that the AMW archive got it wrong and the man allegedly murdered was not Albino Martinez who is alive and well but is someone else.
Once again what I did was re-post what the tv show America's Most Wanted said when they were on the air, but I apologize if they were mistaken. (Not to throw my favorite show under the bus but their mistake if it was a mistake and not ours). Unfortunately, this is a fan site and not the actual show and the show was cancelled to find out who was allegedly murdered by Jose Alavarez. Hopefully one day that will be clarified.

Hi I’m Albino “Martinez’s” daughter they did in fact misidentify the body, that’s actually not even his last name. I didn’t find out till I was 12 that my dad was actually still alive due to the misidentification. He was in North Carolina at the time for work but he wasn’t murdered he was actually deported and because of the lack of technology in 2004-2006 he couldn’t find any way to get in touch with my family. My father has a death certificate in America but he’s alive in mexico. It’s a great story and tragically interesting to tell because wow the police/ investigators really screwed up on this one. I will always wonder who the real man that was murdered was and I wonder if he has any family that’s looking for him.

Hi Lucia, thanks again for your posting. Do you still want to register with the new screen name as well? I assume you had trouble logging into this one but figured it out. I'm glad to hear your father is alive and well, although it has got to be awkward. I don't know if he's a Mark Twain fan. He was a famous author who had a death hoax about him that wrote to a newspaper "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated." As you state of course, the fact of the matter is Alvarez still allegedly killed a man, and should be held accountable for it. I hope one day Alvarez is captured and the man receives justice, although I am sorry to hear about the mess-ups regarding your father.
