Gregorio Sanchez-Lozano, a suspect in a deadly drunken driving accident in Brazos County, Texas, has not been seen since 2002. He was a web-exclusive case on AMW's old website. Below is the archived case description:
Cops: Drunk Driver Destroys Texas Family
While spending a Sunday evening with his family and fiancee in Bryan, Texas, 18-year-old Matthew McGill decided to make a quick trip to the grocery store.
He left around 9 p.m. with his fiancé, Sheila, in his Pontiac Firebird. Less than an hour later, his mother received a desperate phone call from Sheila, saying that they had been in an accident and that Matt was not moving.
Matt and Sheila were transported to the hospital in ambulances, with the driver of a second car in another ambulance.
Once they reached the hospital, Sheila was treated for minor bumps and bruises before being released.
But Matt was in much more serious condition. He immediately went into surgery to stop the swelling in his brain, and also to remove his ruptured spleen.
Although he was under arrest, Lozano left the hospital and has not been seen since.
Accused Drunk Driver Makes A Quick Getaway
While Matt was in surgery, Gregorio Sanchez-Lozano, who police say is the driver of the car that struck Matt head on, also received medical treatment.
Unlike Matt, Lozano had only minor injuries and required just a few stitches to a cut on his forehead.
After he was stitched up, Lozano was questioned by a police officer. Police say he'd spent the day drinking and then took his cousin's truck, without permission, and began to drive home.
Police say before he struck Matt's car, Lozano clipped the rear bumper of another car. He then swerved to the left and began driving on the wrong side of the road, almost immediately colliding head-on with Matt's car, according to police.
After Lozano was questioned, the officers left the hospital without giving the staff or security guards any instructions on whether or not Lozano should be allowed to go.
When Lozano woke up, he decided he wanted to leave, and the nurses couldn't keep him there. Although he was under arrest, Lozano left the hospital and has not been seen since.
A Tragic Ending, And A Fugitive On The Loose
Two days after the accident, 18-year-old Matt died as a result of his injuries.
Now, his family is left with the pain of their loss, and the knowledge that the man who is allegedly responsible for Matt's death is free.
Gregorio Sanchez-Lozano, who was living in Texas at the time, is originally from Mexico, and it is widely believed that he may have returned there to hide.
Thoughts? I found an article from December 2014 about this case so I think it's safe to say Sanchez-Lozano is still wanted. Based on the passage of time, I believe he did flee to Mexico.
