In August of 2005, two young girls in Kansas City, Kansas got into a fight with each other and one was seeking revenge. What seemed like a simple teenage dispute would result in a horrible shootout between two cars. Maria Guzman was in one of the cars with her friends when individuals inside opened fire on each other with guns. The car Maria was in sustained 25 bullets, Maria dying instantly, one of her friends suffering so badly from his wounds that he became a quadriplegic, another being hit five times and requiring to have face surgery and a 17-year old boy being shot five times in the chest. In the other car, four girls were shot, one of them 17-year old Diana Tovalin, dying from her wounds.
Javier "Pelon" Mendoza and Juan Carpio were soon charged with the murders. When he was identified, Juan Carpio was already serving a 14-year sentence in Colorado for burglary. Mendoza is still at large.

Thoughts? This was a horrific tragedy since so many young people were affected by this by either being killed or severely injured. I'm not exactly sure how this shootout occurred though. Were Mendoza and Carpio shooting at each other? That somewhat makes sense as the archived amw.com profile doesn't mention that any of the victims were firing shots at the other car.
I had plans to profile this story for a very long time but finally got around to doing it today. Javier "Pelon" Mendoza is an extremely dangerous fugitive and it sounds like he would be a perfect candidate for the Mexican drug cartels if he fled to Mexico.
