From Sweet Dreams To Nightmare
It was around 1:00 a.m. on May 2, 1981 when the peaceful sleep of a 21-year-old woman was interrupted. Her nightmare began when a man broke into her home, and raped and sodomized his victim for almost two hours.
Police say besides the constant threats that the attacker made to his victim, he also demanded jewels and money. The rapist was able to run away, but not before stealing several things from the house.
Suspect Is Identified, Now Needs To Be Caught
For more than two decades, this innocent victim had to live with the traumatic experience and with the idea that justice was almost impossible.
But in May 2004 the Virginia DNA Databank made a match for the case. The man now had a name--Glenn A. Mitchell. On August 16, that same year, a grand jury indicted Mitchell for rape, sodomy, robbery and burglary. Mitchell was arrested a few days later but was let out on bond, under the promise that he would appear in court in April 4, 2005 for his trial. But he never showed up.
Now police in Virginia are looking for Glenn Mitchell so they put an end to this woman's 20-year nightmare.
Police believe that Mitchell has not made it really far from where the crime occured. Cops say Mitchell may be in Prince George's County, Md., Clinton, Md., or even hanging out with a girlfriend in the nation's capital, Washington, D.C.
Thoughts? The above was from the 2007 AMW archives. He was aired on the April 1st, 2006 and July 15th, 2006 episodes of America's Most Wanted. I put 1981 as the fugitive year since that is the year of the original offense Mitchell still hasn't answered for, however, he was last seen in 2004, and his fugitive photo is 2004, so this is not a cold case (compared to other cases), and is still completely solvable.
