Candido Peraza, is wanted for the suspected drunk driving death of 7-year old Nathan Sitompul. He was aired on the November 8th, 2008 episode of America's Most Wanted. I was able to achieve a partial archive description, please keep in mind I'm starting the story partially cut off since I couldn't retrieve the rest:
"police that after he hit Nathan Peraza stopped for approximately 20 seconds but drove off once he saw Nathan attempting to stand up. As Peraza was fleeing from the scene he ran over Nathan's head and upper body with the driver's side rear tire causing massive trauma. One witness described the incident as like Peraza was driving over a speed bump. Peraza ignored the calls of nearby pedestrians who were yelling for him to stop Nathan's mom watched in horror as she witnessed her young son's death. The friend told cops Peraza drank about two pitchers of beer before leaving. Some witnesses obtained a partial license plate number of the Suburban while other witnesses recognized that the SUV belonged to a neighbor. Police went to the house of Peraza's estranged wife who confirmed that Peraza did indeed drive the Suburban but she told cops that she had not heard from her husband since the accident.
Shortly thereafter cops entered the license plate number into a law enforcement computer system alerting all cops nationwide that Peraza was wanted for felony hit-and-run that resulted in a fatal death. Cops began a massive manhunt for Peraza. Detectives traced Peraza's activities before the collision and discovered that he had used his ATM card at a local pizza restaurant. A friend who was with Peraza at the restaurant confessed that the two had been drinking at the pub .The friend told cops that Peraza drank approximtely two pitchers of beer before leaving in his Suburban. Detectives also went to Peraza's place of employment and a supervisor told cops that Peraza had not been to work since the day of the collision. Four days after the accident a U.S Forest Service agent found Peraza's abandoned Suburban in the Lyle Creek area of the San Bernardino Mountains. Cops say the ignition was still intact and no windows were damaged leading them to conclude that Peraza was indeed the driver of the vehicle and not anyone else. Later a forensic examination of the SUV revealed that the rear brake pads were worn down to the rivets and the brake drums were oversized and worn significantly affecting the braking efficiency of the SUV. Police have not relented in their search for Candido Renteria Peraza and want to bring him to justice for this 2004 homicide."
Thoughts? This case is horrible and there Peraza's picture needs to be next to the word coward in the dictionary. He drunkenly ran over a 7-year old boy TWICE and fled the scene. As far as I know he's still at large although surprisingly I don't see him on Ontario, CA's most wanted list. If anyone has proof otherwise, please let us know because I would love to see this coward captured.
