"Erik Salguero wasn't exactly a great prospect as a date, but turning him down cost Jessica Zapata her young son's life, police say. Known to the locals on Brook Ave. just below 149th St. as Chino, the homeless man sometimes helped out at a car repair shop there. In return, the owner sometimes would let him sleep in a car. Police said Salguero approached Zapata, 19, on June 8 to ask her to go out with him. She rejected his offer. A few hours later, shortly before 9 p.m., police said, Salguero spotted her on Brook Ave., pushing a stroller with her 22-month-old son, Eric, in it. They said Salguero got into a car parked in the fenced-in repair lot, slammed it into gear and tore out of the lot right into the mother and her child. Zapata wound up with a broken leg and facial injuries. Her son clung to life for two days before dying of head injuries at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in Manhattan."
Thoughts? The above was a 1997 news article I had to use for this case since the full archived description no longer works. Please note I edited it and the article itself spells his name Eric while AMW spells it Erik. Salguero was aired on the October 11th, 2008 episode of America's Most Wanted. As far as I know he's still at large as of this posting (10/26/2015), but please let us know if you have proof otherwise. I would love nothing more than to see this guy captured, he clearly had to know hitting that child was a possibility (of course it's still messed up even if Jessica didn't have her son with him) and he plowed into Jessica and him anyway.
The problem I see with catching Salugero is he was essentially homeless in the first place, so he may be in a shelter or out on the streets pretty much anonymous.
