(Pictured: Above: Left: Zuniga in 2004 Right: Zuniga in 1983 Photo Credits: FBI.Gov) Fugitive Profile as of January 14th, 2016: (Based on FBI.Gov wanted poster) Aliases: Hemi Zuniga, Hemie Zuniga, Emy Zuniga Date(s) of Birth Used: September 30, 1951 Place of Birth: Philippines Height: 5'5" Weight: 155 pounds Hair: Black Eyes: Black Sex: Male Nationality: Filipino Remarks: Zuniga is thought to be in the Philippines. TIPS: If you have any information concerning this person, please contact your local FBI office or the nearest American Embassy or Consulate. From the FBI's website: "Geronimo Mendoza Zuniga is wanted for allegedly stabbing his former wife to death in front of their child in South Lake Tahoe, California, in August of 1984. The victim was stabbed over 30 times. A local arrest warrant was issued for Zuniga on August 31, 1984, in the Lake Valley Judicial District, South Lake Tahoe, California, after he was charged with murder. On September 14, 1984, a federal arrest warrant was issued for Zuniga in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, Sacramento, California, after he was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. After the crime was committed, Zuniga fled to the Philippines where he was arrested in August of 2004. However, he was released on bond in October of 2006, and has remained a fugitive since that time." Thoughts? The FBI just added this case to their overall most wanted website so I figured I'd add it here as well. Even though Zuniga has technically been on the run for over 30 years, this is obviously not a cold case. He was captured and there is a photo from 2004, but he was unbelievably let out on bond by the Philippines. (Articles state he was fighting extradition and apparently he somewhat succeeded- as he was given bond- giving him time to flee again). Interestingly, there is a genealogy page claiming he's deceased (and even lists the name of his victim, Lilian Ocampo as his wife). However, I'm just going to assume that it's either an attempt to fool authorities and/or just not proven. The FBI wouldn't suddenly add Zuniga's profile this week if they thought he was dead. www.fbi.gov/wanted/murders/geronimo-mendoza-zuniga/viewwww.geni.com/people/Geronimo-Zuniga/6000000031074973540www.highbeam.com/doc/1P1-104847970.htmlAdmin Note: If you have any news-related updates on this case, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form

Geronimo Mendoza Zuniga is not that old by today’s sytandards as he’s 66 years old as of 12/18/17, so I wouldn’t say he’s dead, unless he’s been killed by a criminal group or in the drug war that had been going on. Also this isn’t the first time the Philippines has arrested someone and let them go, the same happened with current U.S. Marshals Top 15 fugitive Tony Boroughs, but at least we have an image of Mendoza Zuniga from 2004.

Here’s the article from 2004 that describes the murder, and how he was arrested in the southern Philippines, and be brought back to the states (clearly that happen). Also adding to the genealogy page claiming he’s deceased, I think they wanted to put that he was missing but there is no other option for that, to point that out, so I guess it says deceased, but clearly he could still be alive either hidden by his family or he’s basically disappeared similar to Brian Maloney in Ireland and Gerardo Beltran in Mexico, after they were both released after failed attempts at returning them to the states. Also it says he’s specifically from Obando, Bulacan, Central Luzon, Philippines. www.tahoedailytribune.com/news/20-years-on-run-fugitive-captured/

Thanks for the article!
The deceased on the genealogy page is a mystery we may never know other than our possible assumptions. I'd rather just be satisfied that the FBI is still look for him than speculate about the reasons for the page.
Perhaps a dark horse candidate for top ten list despite the Philippines' past non-cooperation.

Perhaps a dark horse candidate for top ten list despite the Philippines' past non-cooperation. I agree he does show a adequate justification for a spot on the top ten list based on crime & based on the recent developments. Though the Philippines may be complicated, it’s currently being tested with Tony Burroughs (another cold case with recent developments) on the sister list, the US15MW. Indeed it is safe to say he’s alive based on his FBI profile, and the fact that he’s been on the site for 2 years.

As of July 16th, 2018, Zuniga is still listed as a wanted fugitive on the FBI's website. (Same link as in the OP)

Unfortunately as of 10/27/18, Geronimo Mendoza Zuniga has been removed from the FBI Website as he is no longer listed, but if anyone can confirm he’s still at large please let us know.

Unfortunately, I have no way of confirming. My best guess is the FBI removed him due to the oldness of the case and not getting any new leads but it would only be a guess. (If he was captured they would have probably said so).
