From The Charley Project:
Barton was last known to be at his apartment in the vicinity of the 1300 block of southwest Campus Drive in Federal Way, Washington sometime after 5:00 p.m. on March 10, 2005. He has never been heard from again. All of his personal belongings, including his two trucks, wallet, keys and cellular phone, were left behind. A sliding screen door at his apartment was found off its track. Otherwise, nothing appeared to be amiss. There has been no activity on Barton's financial accounts since his disappearance. He left money behind in the bank from his recent tax return.
Barton was a member of the punk rock band As Fate Would Have It at the time of his disappearance. The band performed gigs locally and had just been offered a record contract in southern California. Barton was preparing to quit the band in 2005, but the other band members were trying to convince him to stay on and go to California with them. Days after Barton vanished, a 1976 Ford pickup truck belonging to one of the other band members was found completely destroyed in a local junkyard. Investigators examined the truck but couldn't find any clues inside it.
Barton grew up in California and graduated from Buena Vista High School in 1997. He was adopted at birth, a fact he learned not long before his disappearance. He moved to Washington state at the age of twenty-one and became involved in the music scene there. Barton worked for a plastic molding manufacturer at the time of his disappearance. His family describes him as a happy, cheerful person. He had a close relationship with his two brothers, and he had a girlfriend. His case remains unsolved.
Thoughts? This case was aired in the September 13th, 2008 episode of America's Most Wanted. There is a 2014 article about further controversy regarding Brian's disappearance as to whether someone in his close circle friends is behind it or whether Brian staged it himself. One bandmate claims Brian had talked about taking off and going somewhere, but his mother doesn't buy it.
