UPDATE #2: On December 7th, 2023, White was added to the U.S. Marshals' Top 15 Most Wanted fugitives list
From theadvocate.com:
The Sheriff’s Office on Sunday identified a suspect in the shooting death of 28-year-old Kourtney Thomas and wounding of another woman Saturday night in the Gardere area of Baton Rouge.
Leethel White, 38, 5564 Regatta Drive, is wanted on counts of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon, East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks said.
White remained at large Saturday night, Hicks said.
Thomas, who is the parish’s first homicide of 2016, was found shot to death around 9 p.m. Saturday near a vehicle in the 8600 block of Coy Avenue and was pronounced dead at the scene, Hicks said.
A second woman, who was not identified, was also shot during the incident and remained in the hospital Sunday with what Hicks described as minor injuries.
An autopsy for Thomas is scheduled for Monday, said Dr. William “Beau” Clark, the coroner for East Baton Rouge Parish.
Hicks did not address a possible motive in the shooting but said the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
Anyone with information on the shooting or White’s whereabouts may contact the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office at (225) 389-5000 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.

Thoughts? Although no motive is known in regards to the Baton Rouge charges, what makes Leethel White even more dangerous is that he is also wanted for failure to register as a sex offender in Clayton County, Georgia. I am a bit confused in one aspect as the Clayton County Sheriff's website claims he was charged with that offense after a February 1st, 2016 incident, which means he would have been in Georgia after he went on the run. Yet the official Georgia sex offender registry just lists no updates since 2015. So I don't know if they just mean he failed to update his registration on that day or if he committed another act on that day or what so if anyone can clear up the confusion it would be much appreciated.
EDIT: Just realized White was only 18 at the time of his 1995 charge, so depending on the age of the victim, it might not have been the most serious of sex crimes, but it still shows a propensity for not respecting laws.
Also, according to mugshots.com, White's reason for being on the sex offender registry is a 1995 conviction of "carnal knowledge of a juvenile." (which is basically the same thing as statutory rape.) His name there is spelled Leethal, and there is a discrepancy among agencies as to how it's spelled but I went with the most recent spellings of his name.
