From fox46charlotte.com:
CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest in an unsolved murder case.
Kevin Antonia Calderson Rodas, age 7, was shot and killed over Labor Day Weekend 2015 while playing in a yard with other children at a birthday party on Fieldvale Place.
MPD Chief Kerr Putney told FOX 46 this particular shooting was likely due to rival hang-activity. Putney said these groups are not named gangs, but behave like gangs.
Chief Putney said their retaliation caused the deaths of innocent people, including 7-year-old Kevin.
Detectives said they've searched the area repeatedly since that night, gathered evidence, interviewed dozens of people, and spent hundreds of man hours working the investigation.
Despite all efforts, no one has been charged with Kevin's death. Detective Todd Burkard believes someone in the community has information that could lead to a break in the case.
"We have people in our city that know what's going on, but they're not talking to the police, for whatever reason that may be, and that's the most shameful part about the whole case itself," Det. Burkard said.
Police said Kevin was a 2nd grader who loved school, soccer and music. He recently told his mom he wanted to be fireman or a doctor when he grew up.
"We have a mother now who is grieving over her only son that she's lost. She'll never get that back," Det. Burkard said.
The family of the 7-year-old victim continues to search for answers as officers search for those responsible. Anyone who may know information on this case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600. Police said you can remain anonymous.

Thoughts? A year later and sadly Kevin's murder is still unsolved. However, there are updates in his case. In a local news interview, the Detective working Kevin's case revealed that police recovered shell casings in the woods and that he believes the shooter opened fire on foot with an assault rifle. The specific type of assault rifle has not been revealed but the Detective says every time a similar type of firearm is recovered they test it to see if it matches:

Also, I just want to say how incredibly frustrated I am that apparently Charlotte police are having trouble getting people to talk to them. I know I sound like a broken record but you'd think people would have to decency to abandon their stupid "stop snitching" code for a 7-year old boy. Regardless of their feelings about the police you'd think one person would go "you know what maybe if this were any other case I wouldn't say jack but this is a 7-year old boy. This is messed up. I have to say something." So far anyone who knows anything has chosen to be a coward. Regardless of your reasons, the phone number in the article says you can remain ANONYMOUS. No one has to know you're a "snitch" for turning in the person that shot and killed a 7-year old boy. Do the right thing.
