In 1994, Vice Lords gang member Roman Medel kidnapped and severely beat two fellow drug dealers in Will County, Illinois. The victims were beaten with barbells and a pistol and then they were shot while they dove into a river in an attempt to escape. The two survived and Roman Medel fled. Roman is also wanted for questioning in the 1990 shooting murder of James Cooper, who was riding his bike near Roman's Joliet home.
In 2004, Roman Medel was actually caught in Leon, Mexico. There was supposed to be communication between the Will County Prosecutor's Office and the FBI to get the extradition paperwork done, but nothing progressed on it and after a few months, Mexico released Roman. At the time, the FBI actually got rid of 11 international fugitive warrants, including that for Roman. The report by the Chicago Tribune's Fugitives From Justice series in 2011 sparked new interest in getting a federal arrest warrant created again for Roman Medel and other fugitives.
Based on wanted , our advice for anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Roman Medel then contact the Will County Sheriff's Office at 815-727-8575.

Thoughts? Once again we have seen the struggles and problems with finding and extraditing fugitives that fled the United States. It's important to get Roman Medel off the streets at some point, as he is violent enough that he's probably reoffended since going on the run in 1994. I thank the Chicago Tribune for explaining what went wrong in this manhunt, it's the best chance we have in getting this manhunt back on track.
