Philipov is alleged to have stabbed the victim in the stomach six times with a hunting knife. After he failed to appear for trial, a bench warrant was issued for Philipov's arrest in the Superior Court in the State of California, San Diego, California, on November 28, 1990. A federal unlawful flight to avoid prosecution arrest warrant was issued for Philipov on December 14, 1990.
