INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Sherese Bingham’s family is preparing to spend another Thanksgiving without her. Someone shot and killed the 51-year-old four years ago but the killer isn’t in jail, according to Indiana State Police.
A cyclist found her dead the evening of December 12, 2012 in White River State Park near New York and Limestone.
Bingham’s brother, Keith Walker, visited the spot Tuesday.
“She was my only sister. My baby sister,” Walker said. “She was a caring person. She was a hard worker. She loved animals. She was a good Christian woman.”
Detectives said Bingham took her two German Shepherds for a walk along the canal. The dogs protected her so much, medics had to call for backup before reaching her body.
Officers and Walker agree: whoever shot her must have known Bingham and the dogs.
Police said the shooter used Bingham’s handgun. They said the wound to Bingham’s chest and interviews with her loved ones indicate she did not kill herself.
“We know that somebody knows something and they’re not talking about it,” Indiana State Police Sgt. Rich Myers said. “We need that change of opinion. That change of conscience.”
Officers initially arrested Bingham’s husband for her murder in July of 2014. Prosecutors dropped the charges in August 2015 due to a lack of evidence.
The lawyer who represented Bingham’s husband said in an email he has “no comment” on this story.
“She had nieces and nephews that she never got to spend time with or get to know,” Walker said.
After his sister’s death, Walker said a friend and an officer told him his sister suspected her husband of cheating.
He said he’s not sure exactly why someone shot her, but he is sure that someone knows what happened.
“We still love my sister. We are not going to give up until justice is served,” Walker said.
