Today, as many of us might have seen on Facebook, was an all-out media blitz from John Walsh and hall-of-fame baseball star Cal Ripken Jr. looking for information on the person who abducted his mother last year. Ripken is offering a 100,000 dollar reward in the case. The case was briefly mentioned on AMW on Lifetime last year.
The Unknown suspect abducted Vi Ripken from home at gunpoint tied her up and drove her around for hours before she was returned back to her neighborhood.
I still find this case weird as to why would a guy tie her up and abduct her and then return her without seemingly taken anything? Did he get spooked? Did he decide he wasn't going to go through with whatever he was planning? Did he realize who she was after checking her ID and decide to stop his plans?
In my opinion, as weird as this case was, I don't think the abductor knew this was Cal Ripken's mother. Articles did say he told her he wasn't going to hurt her and just wanted her money and car. I still haven't heard if any money was taken and he did return the car. Perhaps he had to "borrow" the car for some unknown reason?
This is a very mysterious case, but hopefully one that new publicity will breathe life into:
