On August 5, 2003, authorities say that Shyam Gauchan convinced a mentally handicapped 16-year old girl to go to his apartment. Once she was there, Shyam sexually assaulted her. Shyam afterwards dropped her off at a Dunkin Dounts and the victim was driven home in a taxi. Shyam was traced because the victim wrote down his phone number at her home. He was arrested but appears to have failed to appear in court at some point, becoming a fugitive.

Thoughts? I checked and the last name "Gauchan" appears to be of Nepalese descent. Even though Neal Stammer was caught in Nepal, catching Shyam Gauchan in Nepal would not be an easy task if he did flee there. Hopefully something can be worked out between the governments of the United States and Nepal at some point, since Shyam deserves to face some serious prison time if he would be convicted.

I guess a lot also depends on if Gauchan is a native or not.

Nepal and the U.S. don't have an extradition treaty, but they decided to cooperate and send Stammer back anyway, likely because they didn't want a child molester in their country.

Hopefully the same happens here.

Gauchan may be harder to capture, but hopefully enough of the Nepalese authorities care about the manhunt. This case should be an even bigger concern because Gauchan targeted a handicapped teen, which means he might be preying on the disabled to this day.

I no longer see Gauchan on the most wanted listing for the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office. They seem to have removed some cold case fugitives but kept others. I'm assuming he's still wanted as of this update. However, if anyone has any updates/proof-of-updates one way or the other, they can always feel free to let us know.
