This week’s “Crime of the Week” focuses on a 2011 unsolved homicide which took place in Columbus.
On Thursday, September 15, 2011, Anthony Minnifield, a longtime employee of “Mitch’s Lounge,” was working at the club which is located at 4400 Karl Road. Investigators were able to confirm that, although the reason is yet unknown, Mr. Minnifield was involved in an altercation with an unidentified male earlier in the evening. Shortly before 2:30am, Mr. Minnifield was cleaning the club when the unidentified male returned to Mitch’s, but was unable enter because the club was now closed and the front doors were locked. The suspect was observed several times beckoning Mr. Minnifield to the entrance doors. As Mr. Minnifield hesitantly approached the doors, the suspect produced a handgun and fired several shots through the glass, striking Mr. Minnifield in the upper body. The suspect, described as Male/Black, 20’s, wearing dark pants and hooded jacket, immediately fled the scene on foot. While several people were inside the club and witnessed the shooting, they left the scene before police officers arrived. Unfortunately, Mr. Minnifield did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Clinton Twp. medical personnel. A photo of Anthony Minnifield may be viewed on our website at www.stopcrime.org.
