Video Credits: Youtube -- On April 28, 1997, Monica Leech was working as a bank teller in Sherman Oaks, California when two robbers held up the bank at gunpoint. After getting the money from the safe, Monica was shot and killed while kneeling on the floor. Suspect #1 was described as a black male who at the time was between 28-30 years of age, 5'10-6'0 and approximately 200 lbs. Suspect #2 was described as being in his mid-late 20s, 5'10 and approximately 180 lbs at the time of the crime. They were seen fleeing from the bank in a white SUV with California partial license plate "3TRB". Based on crime location, it is advised to contact the Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks Police Station at 818-374-9500 if you have any information on Monica's murder case.Moderator Note: If you have any news-related updates on this case, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form --Thoughts? Thanks to whoever uploaded the AMW segment to Youtube three days ago. I actually had this case in my directory to profile but didn't know for certain if it was on AMW. Based on the comments from John Walsh, I think this segment aired in either May or June 1997. The sketches of the suspects are available near the end of the video. This case is still unsolved as of 2014, where Monica's husband Floyd urged a boycott of Cheetos branded products due to a commercial with a similar topic as what happened in Monica's murder. www.standard.net/National/2012/07/07/Husband-of-bank-robbery-victim-protests-Cheetos-ad

I don't have anything "sleuthwise" to add except to say this is extremely tragic because Monica complied and did everything you are supposed to do and was killed anyway.

Question: They know that the robbers were members of the Crips. Does anyone else think that means the actual identities of the killers but don’t have enough to go to court?

Question: They know that the robbers were members of the Crips. Does anyone else think that means the actual identities of the killers but don’t have enough to go to court? That is entirely possible. According to Project: Cold Case (the non-profit advocacy group I support), they have heard constantly from families where there is a known suspect but not enough evidence to prosecute the case.

They may use an interesting strategy to lane James’ co-robber: Threaten the death penalty until he talks.

If convicted, James meets (arguably) three of the 20+ aggravating factors for the imposition of the death penalty in CA (a jury would only need to find one exists and that the aggravating circumstances outweigh those in mitigation).
They are:
1) Murder committed during a robbery; 2) The Murder was committed for financial gain; 3) The Defendant was a gang member at the time and committed the homicide in furtherance of gang activities.
