JEFFERSON COUNTY, Alabama - Authorities are searching for a 55-year-old Jefferson County man who has been on the run for more than five years.
The U.S. Marshals Service, along with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, wants help from the public locating John Joseph "Jay" Kloss III. Kloss is wanted by the sheriff's office on two counts of first-degree sodomy of a child less than 12, and one count of second-degree sodomy of a child.
A Jefferson County grand jury indicted Kloss in March of 2008. Prior to fleeing five years ago, Kloss vowed he would never be found by law enforcement, said U.S. Marshal Marty Keely .
According to a press release issued today, Kloss has extensive experience with computers and electronics, and has worked as an IT engineer and a game developer. He also was briefly employed as a residential alarm installer in 2000, and worked for an airport refueling planes after high school.
Kloss has experience as a HAM Radio operator and in broadcasting HAM Radio over the internet using online repeaters, authorities said. He has some outdoors experience with specific knowledge of horseshoeing.
Marshals officials also pointed out that Kloss believes he is a descendant of Rob Roy MacGregor, a famous Scottish folk hero and outlaw of the early 18th century who is sometimes known as the Scottish Robin Hood.
Kloss is about 6-feet, 1-inches tall and was last known to weigh about 225 pounds. A cash reward of up to $5,000 is being offered in the case. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the U.S. Marshals Service at 1-800-336-0102.
