On October 16, 1980, the San Diego Police Department says that Sergio Rangel was at an auto repair shop with the owner, Ruben Gonzalez. Sergio, Ruben and another man got into an argument and that's when Sergio allegedly stabbed Ruben to death.
In 1981, Sergio was possibly sighted by a San Diego Police Officer in connection with a check fraud investigation. The subject then attacked the police officer and fled, never to be seen again.

Thoughts? With the possible sighting in 1981 and the family ties to California, it's quite possible that Sergio over the years traveled between California and Mexico. At 58 years of age, he would look much different then the 1980 photo we have of him. The tattoos would be the same unless he got at least one of them removed.
